How can you tell if they are over weight?

I adopted Dudley almost 3 weeks ago, and he is quite the little chunk! He is my first adult beardie, so Im not 100% sure exactly how much chub they should have on them. I dont want any fatty liver disease!
He is 2 years old, and about about 16 inches long with a nip, but if he had a full tail Im guessing he would be more like 18-20 in. When I weighed him today, he was 467g! He had a nice big poo afterwards, so that may have been part of it LOL, but he was 443g when I adopted him... He enjoys eating. :D
Is that a good weight, and how would I know if he was obese? I took some pics today to show his flub, and Ill upload some tomarrow or something. Here are some older ones:

He looks like he has a healthy chub IMO but not really overweight. My Bob last weighed in at 538g so if your dragon is fat, so's mine lol

Yeah , i wouldn't say over weight either.. the best way to tell is when they walk, if there struggling , or the belly drags on the floor that usually a good indication, but he looks very healthy to me :)

Thanks! He gets around fine, and his belly does not drag so its good to know he is healthy! I make him fetch his supers, so he burns a few calories there LOL.
So is there a number that his weight shouldnt go over, or should it be judged more on how he looks then?

LOL Tom! I got a mental picture of a extremely pudgey beardie on his belly, flailing his little arms around trying to touch the ground! Hehe

I adopted him from some one who could not keep him because she was preggo, so I dont know anything about his genetics. I have a feeling he might have been bred before though, because he was turned in with an equally plump little female and some younger beardies too... So who knows! Personally, Im not into breeding so Im not planning on it.

I read that you should use the tail base as an indication of being overweight or not.

This was for a dragon under a year (8-12 months)
Thick tailbase and fat body = HEALTHY
Thin tailbase and fat body = PROBLEMS
For the above ages I mentioned a tailbase of between 2.5cm and 3 cm is normal, so dont know if anyone can adjust the calculation to your beardies age. I also know when they are adults, they stop growing length wise and only "GROW" width wise, so your BD looks really good.

I wouldnt worry

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
