Okay guys, I've been trying to do this for days and I just couldn't bring myself to doing it. Tbh, I'm still having a little trouble, but I feel this must be done. And I'm sorry ahead of time, it's going to be long.
Some of you know Alexstrasza, or Allie, but if you don't...just know that she was a very loved beardie.
Allie was our very first beardie. We had been looking at the babies at petsmart for a while and Steve said that he's always wanted one. I was kind of like "meh" because I didn't know about them and how awesome they are! Just like with everything else, we researched anything and everything we could find. Steve found this website and we trolled around on here for a while, finding out everything we needed to know. After doing all the research we could, we headed out to get everything. Our original plan was to get everything we needed and then go home and set it up to make sure everything was okay before bringing a baby home, but while at petsmart getting all our supplies (except for the tank, got that at petco) I saw the cutest little baby I've ever seen! She was all glass dancing and so happy to see us come over, climbing on the rock and then jumping down to run at the glass again. I had to have her! (Keep in mind I was the one that wasn't all for getting one at first and now I'm the one like "gotta have it!" lol) We asked the lady if we could see him/her (we didn't know at the time...we that she was a he) and she let us hold her. She was so cute and so loving that my heart just melted. I looked to Steve and he said she looked fine (checked vent, eyes, and everything) and that it was up to me to pick between her and one other one. I wanted her. We paid for everything and took her home, she was so tiny then, got everything set up and let her settle in.
Just got her home and she was already posing for the camera!
She grew and grew and we loved her so much! ...but then we saw something and started to worry...
Those dark spots on her leg concerned us. So when we finally were able see a vet, Steve talked to him about it. The vet said "Oh that's just scar tissue" and that she should be fine. We didn't think it was scar tissue as it was flaking and such, but we though "he's the vet, he knows better than us." It just got worse. It didn't really seem to bother her though, still eating tons, running, playing. It just kept spreading and we found out that it was probably yellow fungus. We tried everything we could to make her better, but it just kept coming back....worse every time.
About 2-3 months ago, she stopped growing....started to stop eating as much....not very energetic anymore. We tried and tried, but the fungus just kept winning. She eventually stopped eating all together and just withered away. We made her as comfortable as we could, we knew the end was coming...it's funny..you think that..if you know....you can come to grips with it and you'll be okay.........that is never the case. On Feb 3, 2012 I woke up, started getting my oldest ready for school, and then I noticed Allie wasn't in her normal sleeping spot. My first thought was "Oh no..." Steve came out and saw her too and asked "Is she okay?" We looked at her for a while....she didn't seem to be breathing....so Steve picked her up, sure enough...she passed during the night. We were both very saddened by this. Steve put her in her blankie until we could take care of her.
I came home from taking my oldest to school (he was upset too, but I don't think he really understands) and put her in a shoe box "coffin" with her blankie and pillow. Picked out a nice spot for her. Now, she can finally RIP. I know she's up there at Rainbow Bridge, running and playing, posing for the others, and eating all the hornworms her little heart desires. We love you, baby girl, and we miss you so much. We keep your baby pic up on the wall so we never forget you! <3
I know some people wanted to see some pics, but I'm not going to put all of them on here. I know there's some on here that some people probably don't want to see.
Our baby girl when she was really a baby. She was always so silly. Always posing for the camera. lol
"Daddy~ I wanna play too~!"
"Mama, get this side!"
We've always loved her lavender side panels! "She doesn't have side bars, she has side PANELS!"
Pretty girl.
One of my all time favorites!
Her shoe box "coffin"
Her final resting place.
