I hope I'm posting this in the right place, I'm still kind of new here. Anyway, today I had off work so I went shopping for Dib!
Here's the old setup:
I had an 18" UVB because I JUST upgraded from a 20L to a 40g breeder a few days ago and haven't had time to go out and get a 24" light. See my mechanical skills in action with the mounting of the fixture, heh...
Was using a bath towel as substrate, worked well enough for temporary use.
Well, here's what I went and bought today since I had the time off:
A new hideout, much bigger than his other one.
A new 40g screen top, because the $1/gallon deal on tanks at Petco didn't come with one, but I can't complain since I got the tank for so damn cheap. Though, I need to figure out something with the screen, because it drops my basking temp down 10 degrees... not good.
Always saw these in friends' beardie's tanks and wanted to get one, so...
Finally got a 24" fixture, because obviously the 18" was too small, in my opinion anyway. This was like $8 at Walmart.
I also got a 24" Reptisun 5.0, only because Petco didn't have the 10.0 in a 24", but I have already ordered a Reptisun 10.0 from Amazon, so the 5.0 is just to last me until Wednesday. I didn't get a picture of it, but i'm sure you all already know what it looks like. ;]
I replaced the bath towel "substrate" with some thick vinyl flooring that I got from Lowes. I didn't need to use the grout that I bought with it, since I was able to fit the tiles tightly together. The vinyl tiles were 18"x18", but I still had to trim about 1/4" off a few sides.
Easy enough, measure and cut.
Preparing to mount the new UVB fixture inside the tank. I'm using heavy duty velcro strips from Walmart.
One piece in, ready for the other.
Not too bad... sure looks better than a towel.
He seems to like it. Pretty inexpensive makeover, overall.
Last, but not least... DINNER TIME.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
