Dude's scales turned yellow again. I read many articles online and found that monistat clears it really well. Do I just put it on the infected area?

Thanks!

Hello,

Yellow fungus is pretty tricky from what I've read however many people on here bathe their beardies in a betadine bath watered down to look like weak tea and then apply lamisil or monistat to the affected area. You would need to do this EVERYDAY because yellow fungus is a pretty irate infection.

Make sure that your beardie is completely dry before putting them to bed. As a precaution I would remove any substrate you have from the vivarium and steam the entire tank.

Replace the substrate with paper towels and remove them daily as yellow fungus tends to be difficult to get rid of.

To add you may want to take your beardie to the vet because he could be harboring the fungus in his system as well which would require an oral antibiotic. If you can please post a picture because it would be helpful.

Also if you could go over your setup - many times humidity or substrate can play a role in fungal infections so it would be best to know your setup.

Thanks so much for replying. His fungus has gotten SO much better just after two days. I've been applying it once a day. There's almost no discolored scales now! I have been soaking him every other day as well.

There is no substrate in his cage. The humidity in his cage is most of the time around 30%, sometimes 20% but rarely.

Temps: 90-100 degrees
Uvb Brand: Reptisun 10.0
Diet: (he's a pretty picky eater!) butternut squash, baby argula blend, romain lettuce, and yellow squash are mainly in his diet. He is also offered things like apples, other greens, cucumber, pear, broccoli, ect and he eats that occasionally. His staple feeders are repti-worms and sometimes crickets.
age: about 6 or 7.
Size: about 16 inches (including tail)
Weight: I'm not sure. I haven't wieghed him and do not have a scale.

Your setup sounds pretty good. His temps are better in the 100-105 range at the basking spot. Also romaine lettuce isn't necessary because it provides little to no nutritional value. Other than that I'd keep up with the lamisil/monistat and betadine bathing and see what happens. If you can, a picture would be helpful :)

Would you like a picture of the fungus before the monistat? If I take a picture now, it's barely visable.

If you have a picture before the monistat and one after that would help. Although if it is being treated and going away then it is most likely yellow fungus. Let us know how it improves :) Although it seems as though its coming along nicely

Here's before the monistat.

I'll get a picture after as soon as I find my camera. It's getting noticeably better though. I'm still going to schedual an appointment for the vet.

We have been dealing with it also. MY little guy had it pretty bad because we couldnt see it due to a bad shed (reason we took him to the vet). He gets a dip in watered down Nolvasan for 10 min then gets creamed with silvadene cream. He reacted to it very well. He lost a lot of scales in the process and my vet said thats normal due to the skin condition. You want to get a culture done on him just to make sure you are fighting yellow fungus and not another fungus that just so happened to turn a little yellow.

You do NOT want to do an oral antibiotic if it is yellow fungus. Antibiotics (medicine for BACTERIAL infections) would make a FUNGAL infection worse. In a very severe case, vets may prescribe an oral antifungal, but not an oral antibiotic. Most cases don't need to be treated orally though.

Dude's back is no longer yellow! I'm continuing to apply the medicine until the tube runs out though, just in case.

I went to the store to get his medicine, and because it was for yeast infections, people were staring at me funny. I'm pretty sure if I told them "this vaginal cream is for my lizard" they would have looked at me more wierd.

If the yellow is gone already I'm thinking it wasn't "yellow fungus" but lesser fungus. That's a good thing...
Hope no one recognized you ha ha

Dude went to the vet today because I found the fungus spreading to his leg. The vet said it wasn't yellow fungus, but a different fungal infection.

The vet gave him a shot. They took him into another room to do it, and when I got him back, his beard was all black and he looked so angry! I felt horrible. They gave me medication to dab on his back twice a day and oral medication... I'm not thrilled about the oral medication at all. If anyone has any tips to make it easier to give to him, please let me know!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
