Hey everybody since I just joined I am trying to figure out stuff for bearded dragons. One of the things is what size cage do I need for 1 bearded dragon. Also if I need toys for them to play with. And how often should I hold them or play with them. And if it is ok to take them outside for a couple of minutes. Please reply thanks.
I believe a lot of people us a 40 gallon breeder or a 36x18x18. I think a 4x2x2 is great. There's plenty of room.
I don't think they use toys but some people do put in a stuffed animal. Search the enclosure thread and you will get alot of ideas.
You did find the right place to get all your questions answered. Just keep researching. Make sure you have the right lighting because the pet stores canl sell you the wrong ones that can cause problems like blindness.
She got the enclosure question, so I'll take handling. I make a point of handling all my dragons at least once a day, usually for an hour or so, but I spend a little time talking to and petting each of them even if I don't have time to take them out and play. Taking them outside is fine, if it's not a particularly nice day (75*+) I would limit it to only a few minutes under your coat or sweater. I've taken Gibby out for several hours at a time and he's fine with it, but he's older and very calm, I wouldn't subject my more excitable girls to extensive wandering. People WILL come up to you and want to talk to you about them and touch them and it can be to much for some dragons. I make a point of wearing something to cover Gibby once he's had enough. (And if they haven't pooped that day, you'll want to think about putting a towel under them if they're on you while you're out) Just taking them out and letting them explore your yard (On a leash) can be fun, but you have to make sure they don't eat anything!
