Mine likes to poop right in the middle of his basking rock. It leaves me annoyed because it is never a time when I am home, so I have hard poop I have to scrape off the stone. It is real rock which is glued to two other rocks which makes for a heavy item to lift out of his cage. If it is not on the basking rock it will be behind it or on the log that rests against his basking rock. He just likes to poop hot I guess.
On a side note, if you ever come into my pet store (I work for petco) I only recomend carpet. I will tell the buyer about the dangers of sand, and only sell it to them if they say they want it. I know not all pet store employees are worth their weight, but some of us are. When I am shoping, I always ask if the person owns what I am shoping for and if they do not I ask them where their knowledge comes from. This way I know how much weight to put into their advice.
How do you guys feel about astro-turf type stuff? its at home depot next to the outdoor carpet? also Maverick likes to dig a lot so can i get some advise on that? What would you guys do?
I have always tried to get people who want sand to use it in a litter box set up. This way there is less chance of harm comming from the sand because 1 it is easier to change fully leaving less chance for bacteria and 2 there is less chance for swallowing because there is less exposure. A small litter box with some sand and a ramp in and out shouldn't cause to many problems but still give the dragon a place to dig. If you get the right size box you can even use one of the half log hiders as a ramp which when barried in sand will not move. I know because I tested it out at work a few days ago lol. The only down side to this plan is the space your viv has avalible. The new tank I am building it should fit right in the middle so I am thinking about going this way to give my dragon some more digging because he also likes to dig, but I do not want a full tank of sand.
