Today i went to petco to look around and i what i seen was horrible. They had 10 baby bearded dragons stuffed in a tiny tank with no basking light the temp was around 75 and a few were dying in the sand. Very sad to see
I was so elated to go to my local Petsmart last week and see that there was a beardie expert there. I made sure they had the right UVB and she knew her way around her feeders. *phew!*
If I see an animal in a horrible situation I feel it is my responsibility to change it. Either speak to the person who is in charge of its care, speak to the owner, or/and report it to the Humane Society. Some people need to be educated and get a heads up on what needs to be done.
I would go to the manager. I went to the Petco here and saw their baby beardies with HUGE crickets in their tank. I complained to the manager and he took care of it right away. This was followed up by a customer service call, and another call from the manager himself.
I went to a Petco where they had full adult crickets in with hatchling beardies. They were almost as big as the beardies themselves. When I said something to the manager, he told me that their crickets don't bite. They don't have that issue apparently....
The baby we just got Sunday was from another pet store and was the runt of the litter. He was having his toes bitten off by either crickets or the other babies three times his size. We talked the guy into letting us have the runt for $8. She is with us now. We really did not plan of having a third dragon, but we wanted to save this one. Glad we did.
