i am thinking of starting to feed Yoshi either of these worms. but what worm is easier to take care of? and at yoshi's age 4.5 months what is best for him oh and cheaper lol.
wax worms are very easy to take care of, but are used only as a treat or for underweight beardies since they have quite a lot of fat. I don't think your little one is big enough for silkworms, I could be wrong though.
Well today i bought wax worms from petsmart 50 waxworms for $4.They seem to like them.I thought they were not gonna like them but guess what they did. I keep mine refrigerated because the lady at petsmart said so and thats where they had them. But i do wanna try silkworms one day.
when you put them in the frig make sure they are REALLY low in the frig or they will die. i think they need temps 45 an higher. an i learnt that my frig is infact 34 lol. wax worms will morph pretty fast if you dont frig them also so if you wanna start to breed them they are EASY. but if you just want them for a treat buy them in really small amounts or half will morph an youll have caccoons or moths...lame
I tried silkworms and Alvin loved them. However, they made his poo really stink and I didn't love that too much. You can buy them small and they won't be too big for your baby. However, they are definitely harder to take care of and more expensive then crickets. If they don't stay warm enough or condensation gets into the container or you touch them or their area is not clean, they will die.
I don't think I will be going back to silkworms. When Alvin gets big enough, I am going to try Superworms and in the meantime, I am sticking with crickets. He loves them and I ordered 1000 for $20 which even if a bunch die, it is still way cheaper than getting them at the pet shop.
Well from what I understand, they don't take up much space. I am going to keep mine in a 15G tank but I was told that some folks even use something as small as 8 gal. You can also use a Rubbermaid container. All you need to do is get the cricket food and gel's for water.
lol im donna start thinkin hard on it once i get paid... but i prolly wont just cuz of that damn smell. i buy them 10 dozen at a time an they stink up the box in 2 days!lol
If you have a basement that's where I would store you waxies. we used to keep them that way for months at a time. whatever you do with crix make sure you have good ventalation otherwise they will all die. I had 2000 die off in under an hour when my bf set some thing on their box. you'll need a screen or something more than just holes poked into the lid.
