I had noticed you had called back but did not leave a message. I have been waiting for an update!
GREAT you got it taken care of, geez, an abscess how terrible for him. No wonder he was biting his tail. Poor thing, I would have performed the surgery myself also, if I had needed to. I am glad that you got to it so quickly.
I am so glad that he is doing well now & his little tail is healing up as well. What a trooper he is!
How is his appetite now, back to normal?
He's doing really welll now, and his appetite is pretty much back to normal, although he's still ticked off at me for taking out most of his cage furniture. The vet didn't want him climbing on anything, since he was afraid that he might fall and break open his incision! The night I brought him home, I went over to the pet shop and got a little furry bed for him, with bolsters on the sides. I thought it would be warmer, and more comfortable for him to have something soft under him, and he seemed to like sleeping in it for the first week or so. After the first week though, he began to feel better and started giving me the beardie "evil eye" to get his climbing tree back!
His vet called last night about 9:00 to get an update on how he was doing. He seemed pleased with Ming's progress, and since his incision is now scabbed over, he said I could give him back his climbing tree, so he climbed up and slept on his hammock last night.
I'm still giving him one dose of Baytril daily, along with some liquid calcium, but I have to follow that up with a few syringes full of juice that he likes, or I get "the beard". LOL He's a spoiled little monster, but I don't really mind. I'm so glad that he's going to be okay that I'd probably go out and buy him a T-Bone steak at this point, if he wanted one! LOL
He goes for a recheck on May 11th, and while he's there his vet will remove the stitches. Considering how bad the infection was, he bounced back really quickly, which is probably due to the fact that's he's always been so healthy, along with the fact that he had an excellent vet! I just hope that nothing like this ever happens again!
GREAT, he must be thrilled to have his climbing tree back so he can sleep on his hammock. I am so happy that you caught that in time before the infection spread throughout his body & really made him ill. The Baytril should knock anything out that might have been missed.
He wont miss the portion of his tail that is gone & he will be perfectly fine.
So you get the "beard" if he doesn't get his favorite juice? Good grief, that is hilarious! That is ok, he gets a reward for everything he has been through.
Good that he gets his stitches out next week, that will feel much better for him after that. I am happy it had a good ending for little Ming, your monster.
