I was able to get my temps right in this 4x2x2 enclosure with an entire screen top, a 100 watt T-Rex UVB, and a 100 watt red infrared heat lamp.
I used a mix of slate and green cage carpet. Word of advice, slate tiles are ideal because when your beardie poops, just take out that one tile and replace
I have two Tupperware sandwich squares which I cut holes for on two different levels so I can easily switch out his food and water dishes AND just throw em in the dishwasher. This is also an ideal convenience. Using the poultry netting I also built a hammock in the top right corner. When he gets bigger, I'll take that one out and staple in a bigger one.
I covered the entire wall with poultry netting I picked up from Home Depot for about $15 (the smallest roll I could find was 3' X 25'). It is all stapled on by staple gun. I'm probably gonna grab another plant next time I'm about to cover up that hideous cut job I did on the netting directly in the middle of the back wall.
I was able to put all my 4 plants I bought at Michael's for about $5 a piece (got lucky, there was a 70% off greens sale that day ) due to the fact that I could intertwine it through all of my poultry netting. Before Zum would just grab it all and drag it around his cage. BAD BOY.
For his ramp I used some random wall climbing stuff I found at my pet store for about $3
We just got Bob our bearded dragon yesterday from a friend. We've set him up in our old 55 gallon aquarium. Looking at all these pictures has given me some really good ideas for a permanent home for him. We're rookies and have already learned a lot from the forums in just a day.
A very awesome looking viv!
I wanted to wallpaper the inside of ours to have something other than the white. My dh put it together too quickly for me to get something.
Cheers LJean. You can still paper the inside of you're viv anytime, only takes a mo. I think some of the rock backgrounds you guys do are the 'dogs swingers'. Will definitely go for that style with my next viv. Best regards to you guys that love you're beardies.
basically, i designed this enclosure for my special needs dragon. since he has no fingers or claws i want to put a long gradual ramp along the back portion of his cage. the lower "L-shaped" area would be the same size as the upper "L-shaped area", roughly 15"x18". i would install 2" plexi-glass for gaurd-railing around the upper level to prevent accidents.
exactly how high i will raise the level is still undecided. probably so the top level is 6-8" from the reptisun .
i would probably hang the reptisun over the flat areas, but where would i point his heat light in this setup? maybe, so its hitting an edge of both the top and bottom areas?
also, i was thinking of making a cave under the upper level but i dont know how i want to go about it . i was thinking of a big sprawling cave(12"x12") that is open against the glass side so i could see him at all times.
i am VERY excited about this new project and will continue to make updates on my progress.
*edit* if i am imposing on this thread by posting pictures of my unfinished setup please PM me and i will wait till i finish building it
Maybe instead of using a solid piece, like a wall, in the front to hold up the basking area you could use legs in the corners. The dragon would be able to go underneath and you would be able to see him.

Just a quick question- my beardie is currently 8" in length. He lives in a vivarium 60x60x60cm.
I am just a wee bit concerned about the size of it. The pet shop recommended it (as i am pretty new to the whole beardies thing)
Do you think I should've gotten a bigger one to start off with?

Yes, petshops sell you a smaller tank, knowing you WILL need to buy a bigger one, they may try and pull the trick on you again and sell you a 'slightly' bigger one..
your best going out and buying/making a 4x2x2 foot viv. this will last him throughout adult size.
