Another question. I would like to provide more radiant heat on the basking end since the fixture I have is so small. Is there a safe way to provide such heat inside a wooden enclosure? I can't and won't use a heat mat (too many scary stories). I won't use a heat rock either for the same reason. I've heard of heat cable or some kind of radiant heat. It would be nice to be able to put something between the shelf liner and tile under his hide too.
Any help is appreciated! I've been googling for a solution, but I'm coming up with very little.
I don't see why the shelf liner would be an issue. As for heat, the tile should hold heat for a while after the lights go out. I use a MegaRay heat projector for additional heat as needed and it works really well. Runs much cooler than a CHE.
He ate more than he has in a while today!!! I'll look up the megaray. I also found a kind of heated pet bed that has a digital thermometer on it...debating getting it for him.
