I Set up my viv sunday last got a .5 uvb coil bulb and when i turned it on it was veryyyy bright and had probs with my eyes since so yesterday sunday 12th i turned it on again just to give the beardie some uvb and eyes are killing me since i had issues with the beardie closing his eye as well. does anyone else have probs with there eyes (humans) after being in contact with uvb?? was aat doctor this morning she things it the light i was thinking it 2 like must have being so bright and yesterday the lighter uvb bulb made my eyes bad again
it just goes to show just how bad the coils can be for your and their eyes. The coils are just bad, and at 5% IF he would want to bask he would not be getting enough UVB anyway. You need to turn it off right away, and give him a few days without any UVB to give his eyes a chance to recover. After that you need a reptiSUN 10 TUBE or the Arcadia 12% UVB TUBE if in the UK.
im wondering if the reptisun 10. tube be ok for my eyes or what??? heads wrecked if ill have to get rid of my new beardie??? it started when i used the .5 coil first then turned it on again yesterday for a hour or 2 and my eyes were killing me last nite and today on drops for infection etc.. would the tube be ok for me?
I'm not sure which one of the coil uvb bulbs you are using, but you should turn it off ASAP. Do not use it on your beardie. The coil bulbs have been known to cause eye issues as you have already experienced yourself. Your beardie is feeling the same effects you are with his eyes. There was a member on here, who just recently did an experiment with his Zilla coil uvb. It burned his eyes as well. Here is the thread about it viewtopic.php?f=45&t=133577&p=1071576#p1071576
See if you are able to return the bulb to the store where you purchased it.
As of now, the best uvb on the market is the ReptiSUN 10.0 fluorescent tube(not coil/compact). If you cannot find the ReptiSun locally they can be found here at a reasonable price http://www.petmountain.com
Since your beardies eyes have been affected by this bulb, it is best to not use any UVB for a few days to allow your beardies eyes to heal. He will be okay for a few days without it.
i got my beardie last monday he got 2 days of the bulb it has being off since well besides yesterday like my eyes are killing me today and my beardie has not moved today stupid light i know what he is going ture my eyes are killing me getting the bulb now and throwing it in the bin like my eyes are bad after it and beardie
does anyone know if the reptisun 10.0 15 watt will be safe for my eyes and beardie?? his eyes are closed as well today stupid bulbs should be band i threw mine in bin.. really need help dunno if i should bring dragon back :-(
Just give him a few days rest with no UVb for his (and your) eyes to rest, the reptiSUNs are fine, we have all used them with no problems. I dont think you should take your baby back because of it.
i moved the beardie to my bedroom so wont be looking at him as much and quiter up there for him im gonna try train him to eat out of the viv so i wont have much contact with the uvb.. new tube should be here before friday here is pic of the viv in my room now
It is clear that that bulb did do damage to my eyes and beardie like if it was just one of us would not know but now i know its def the tube it got the bin anyway the tube is prob more safer
yes im sure the bulb will be much better. What wattage bulb are you using for basking, have you managed to get the temps sorted?? I see your using a digital thermometer in the pic!
40 watt it's reading 105, 110 normally think unite be taken him back dunno if it's worth the risk with my eyes like they are very sore and stuff today like :-(
my dragon's viv sits about 6 feet to the left of my desk. i spend several hours a day sitting here with the reptisun 10 in plain sight and i've never had an issue with my eyes.
