25 MARCH 2022 = DELTA WAVE Day 282 & OMICRON BA1 TSUSAMI Day 106 & BA2 TSUSAMI (March/April 2022) < SA > >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SA BA2 ASSERTING ITSELF LARGELY IN SCHOOL, COLLEGE, UNI AND OFFICE SETTINGS. LIBNATS thrown out of power in SA State Parliament in a landslide State Election , Labor will now form a majority government lead by a the new SA State Premier who has a very strong endorsement and has promised SA that his government WILL FOLLOW EXPERT HEALTH ADVISE. 24/3/2022 SA recorded 4742 new cases , SA local total for DELTA - OMICRON WAVE now 210110 cases. SA recorded 2 delta/omicron deathS. 24/3/2022 SA Reff = 1.18 24/3/2022 SA PCR POSITIVITY = 19.4% 24 March 2022 COVID Cases in SA There have been 4,742 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 27,624 active cases in South Australia. SA Health can confirm a man in his 60s and a man in his 70s, who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away. There are 157 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 10 people in ICU, and one person requiring a ventilator. Of those hospitalised, 105 people are fully vaccinated, 49 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and three have an unknown vaccination status. Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted. Total case breakdown New cases today - 4,742 Current active cases - 27,624 Total cases - 222,149 Total deaths - 242 Variants The latest genome sampling has found around 70% of samples taken were BA.2. *This figure will be updated as results are received, noting results are not reported daily. COVID testing Yesterday, 16,628 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is a 6.6% increase on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 3,226 PCR tests were positive, while 1,516 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported. >>> The SA Education Union has called for the school term in South Australia to end a week early amid a growing number of COVID-19 cases and staff absences. The union said a survey of schools last week revealed more than three-quarters of schools and preschools had between one and 10 teachers away each day. There were similarly high rates of absences among support staff. The SAEU has suggested officials declare the final week of the current term a pupil-free period. "As a demonstration of goodwill toward fatigued educators, this break will provide much-needed time to reset in preparation for term two," the union said in a statement on Thursday. "Words of thanks are not enough. Real measures to address workforce exhaustion are needed now." In response to increasing case numbers, classes in some schools have been combined. While authorities this week decided that whole classes would be sent home if 10 or more students tested positive. The actions came as infections across SA continued to rise with 4742 new cases reported on Thursday, the second-highest daily total since the start of the pandemic. SA's highest daily total of 5679 came on January 14. But recent modelling suggested average daily infections could top 8000 and possibly even 10,000 within weeks with a rise also in hospitalisations and deaths. A meeting of SA's new Emergency Management Council on Friday will consider the response to rising cases as well as existing restrictions, including isolation requirements and statewide mask mandates. SA currently requires infected people to isolate for seven days but those considered close contacts for 14 days, an arrangement that has come in for significant criticism. It also deems a close contact to be someone who has face-to-face contact with a COVID-positive person for as little as 15 minutes if no masks were worn. Premier Peter Malinauskas has asked for further modelling on what the impact would be on case numbers if SA's close contact, isolation and mask-wearing rules were revised. "We want to make informed judgements," he said. "The more information we can have, the better for my team." >>> 25/3/2022 SA recorded 4549 new cases , SA local total for DELTA - OMICRON WAVE now 214659 cases. SA recorded 4 delta/omicron deathS. 25/3/2022 SA Reff = 1.14 25/3/2022 SA PCR POSITIVITY = 18.7% COVID-19 update 25 March 2022 WA Health is reporting a total of 8,133 new cases to 8pm last night. Sadly, two historical deaths dating back to 22 March were reported to WA Health yesterday. They were a man in his 70s and a man in his 80s. Due to patient confidentiality, no further information will be released by the Department on these deaths. Total case breakdown: Region Active (new to 8pm last night) Metropolitan 37,527 (6,645) Goldfields 745 (118) Great Southern 790 (155) Kimberley 663 (135) Midwest 615 (128) Pilbara 1,223 (291) South West 1,372 (259) Wheatbelt 641 (133) Notes: 1. Of the cases, 3,653 were confirmed via PCR test, the remaining 4,480 were self-reported positive rapid antigen tests. A total 17,907 PCR tests were conducted at either state-run or private pathology clinics yesterday. WA has recorded 124,525 cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Anyone experiencing symptoms should get tested immediately and isolate until they receive a negative result. Visit the HealthyWA website for a full list of testing clinics and opening hours (external site). COVID-19 vaccinations WA has reached an important milestone in its vaccination rollout with 95% per cent of regional WA having now received their first dose. >>> South Australia's Premier has quickly shut down any talk of public schools finishing term 1 a week early due to the pressures of COVID-19. The Australian Education Union yesterday said the early closure was needed to help schools and teachers regroup after a chaotic opening to the year that had seen thousands of students and teachers absent for COVID-related reasons. However, Peter Malinauskas said starting school holidays earlier did not make sense. He said it would not happen "if I’ve got anything to do with it — and I do". "I just can't countenance the idea of extending school holidays by an entire week," he told ABC Radio Adelaide. "The amount of disruptions that would cause parents, cause students, cause people who don't have fixed incomes, that is, they might not be public servants." He said he spoke to Department for Education chief executive Rick Persse last night to explain his view. Mr Persse yesterday said extending the Easter school holidays was "in the mix" and he planned to discuss it with the new Education Minister Blair Boyer. Department figures show 491 teachers were absent on Wednesday because they had COVID-19, were isolating or were caring for someone else — about 200 more than at the start of the month. Another 287 non-teaching staff were absent. Out of all public school students, 3.5 per cent had COVID-19 or were isolating on Wednesday. Australian Education Union state president Andrew Gohl had called for all four days of week 11 (April 11–14) to be declared pupil-free days. South Australia recorded 4,742 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, the state's second-highest daily caseload on record since the start of the pandemic. Another two men with COVID-19 died, one aged in his 60s and the other in his 70s. A meeting of the Emergency Management Council sub-committee of cabinet will discuss easing close contact rules this morning.
