Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the new cases on Wednesday during a media conference with chief health officer Dr John Gerrard. It comes after Queensland recorded 15,962 new cases on Tuesday. Ms Palaszczuk announced that from 1am this Saturday, international travellers can return and no longer have to do quarantine, if they are vaccinated. The premier said the decision was made possible by the state's current vaccination rate of 91. 5 per cent of the population with one dose of a vaccine and 88.82 per cent who are double dosed. Travellers will need to do a RAT test within 24 hours of arrival. Unvaccinated travellers will still need to do two weeks of quarantine. She admitted the intl arrivals are now more likely to contract Delta or Omicron here than to bring it in. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 19/1/2022 WA WA recorded 5 +ve PCRs , WA local total for DELTA - OMICRON WAVE now 142 cases. WA recorded 0 INTL case. WA recorded 0 MYSTERY LOCAL case. WA recorded 0 delta deaths.. WA PCR POSITIVITY = 0.1% COVID-19 update 19 January 2022 WA Health has reported 2 local COVID-19 cases and 3 travel-related cases to 8pm last night. One case is a close contact of a previously reported case and has been in quarantine. The second case is being investigated. Currently there are no known links between this case and other known cases. This person has been infectious in the community but is now in quarantine. Contact tracers are now working with this case to determine potential exposure sites. Exposure sites WA Health’s contact tracing team continues to identify a new range of exposure sites linked to new cases and it is likely exposure sites will be updated or added. Please continue to check exposure sites regularly, these are listed on the HealthyWA website. WA Health has identified potential higher risk COVID-19 exposure in Osborne Park, Applecross and Mount Lawley, and urgently requires people who visited these sites at the times listed to get tested immediately and self-quarantine. These higher risk COVID-19 exposure sites include Comfort Massage in Osborne Park, U Natural Spa Therapy in Applecross and New U Massage in Mount Lawley. These locations have been visited by multiple COVID-19 cases and WA Health believes additional people have attended the businesses during this time, without registering their attendance or using the SafeWA app. Hit Studio Karaoke Box has been upgraded to a close contact exposure site. This means anyone who visited this location between 10pm on January 14 and 2am on January 15 must get tested immediately and isolate for 14 days from the date of last exposure, unless directly advised otherwise by the Department of Health. Testing clinics 5,980 Western Australians were swabbed at clinics yesterday. WA Health is expanding testing capacity, including operating hours of clinics. People are encouraged to check the HealthyWA website to find clinic locations and opening hours. Private clinics are also available. Testing is available free of charge at private testing clinics for people who have been advised by WA Health to get tested, or who have been present at exposure sites at the times listed on the HealthyWA website. Vessels WA Health is closely monitoring two vessels off the WA coast, both reporting probable COVID cases on board through returned positive Rapid Antigen Tests. All positive crew members on board these vessels are isolating in their cabins and being monitored safely. SafeWA Yesterday, 1,903,3023 scans were recorded on the SafeWA app. It is increasingly important for everyone to check in when they visit businesses in WA. Using SafeWA or the ServiceWA app will help authorities contact those who may be at risk quickly and effectively. Other information There are currently 82 confirmed active cases in WA. Of these, 25 are in hotel quarantine, 57 are in self-quarantine. No cases are currently in hospital. Today’s five new cases bring the State’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 1328. 1236 people have recovered from the virus. Border controls Information about Western Australia’s controlled border arrangements, conditions of entry and quarantine is available online. COVID-19 vaccinations COVID-19 vaccination clinics administered 31,614 yesterday. Demand for vaccinations and third doses is increasing. To spread the demand across clinic operating hours and to avoid excessive wait times, people are encouraged to make a booking via Vaccinate WA. Vaccinations are also available at GPs and pharmacies. Anyone who received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine four or more months ago can now book their booster dose and ensure they have maximum protection against the disease. An additional 4,700 vaccination appointments for 5 to 11s have been added at State-run clinics between January 22 and January 30, these can be booked online at VaccinateWA. A dedicated paediatric vaccination clinic will also open at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC) and increased children's vaccinations will be available at Kwinana and Ellenbrook vaccination clinics. All other appointments booked at the PCEC clinic will continue as scheduled. Mandatory vaccination information A mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for most occupations and workforces in WA is being introduced in a phased approach. Remote WA community of Kupungarri living in fear as COVID-19 reinforces need for mobile service. Most Australians are able to call for help when they're in trouble, but Deb Donation lives in constant fear for the safety of her community in remote Western Australia, where mobile phone reception is non-existent. Ms Donation is a Ngarinyin woman and the chair of Kupungarri community, one of the most remote Aboriginal communities in the state. "It's challenging and also scary because it's always on the back of our minds," she said. "Everyday we tell our kids, 'Don't you break your arms', or, 'Don't you play rough because we don't want you guys to end up injured and we haven't got a nurse here'." Located in the Kimberley region 2,500 kilometres north-east of Perth and about 450km from the Northern Territory border, the town's residents have been waiting two years for a tower to be installed after receiving funding through the federal Mobile Black Spot Program (MBSP). The closest hospital by road is a four-hour drive to Derby and in an emergency the only way to reach the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is by using the landline at the roadhouse. Triple-0 not an option Ms Donation has faced the terrifying reality of being unable to call emergency services when her son and his partner were involved in a car rollover just outside the community. "His partner needed medical attention, so he just had to run with her back into community," she said. "She was unconscious, drifting in and out. "He carried her from the rollover site to the station creek, about four kilometres." The pair were found at the creek and the injured woman was flown to Halls Creek Hospital where she recovered. Ms Donation said residents were forced to drive between four and six hours to the closest towns to get reception, but as most families don't own a car, many have to wait for a lift into Broome or Derby. Access to essential services "Some people go without payments or can't get access to their documents or MyGov due to not being able to get access to their SMS," Ms Donation said. Almost all 200 remote Aboriginal communities have been closed to visitors since the start of the pandemic, but even with the closures, communities with publicly accessible roadhouses and shops face exposure to COVID-19. And without mobile reception the risks are even greater. WA border fears Jodie Newman manages the Mt Barnett roadhouse at Kupungarri on the Gibb River Road, a popular travel route for tourists seeking a rugged outback adventure and an essential stop for fuel and supplies. She said mobile reception was vital for protecting the community as national and international tourists were set to flood back in. "You need to link your Medicare to MyGov to obtain your vaccination status certificate and to do that you must receive an SMS verification code which you cannot do unless you have mobile service," she said. "We cannot do our QR check-ins when the tourists start to arrive here because we have no mobile service, so how are we meant to keep our mob safe?" [/QUOTE]
