NSW POSITIVITY = 18.928% NSW Reff = 2.42 1 January 2022 NSW recorded 22,577 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. Sadly, NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of four people; three women and one man. (update 5 people. ) One person was in their 60s, one person was in their 70s, and two people were in their 80s. One person was from inner Sydney, one was from south-eastern Sydney, one was from western Sydney, and one was from south-western Sydney. One person was unvaccinated, one person had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and two people had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. One woman in her 80s was a resident of the Lilian Wells Nursing Home in North Parramatta, where she acquired her infection. It is the second death linked to an outbreak at this facility. There are currently 901 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 79 people in intensive care, 26 of whom require ventilation. There were 119,278 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 148,410. Restrictions on PCR testing. Testing capacity in NSW is currently under enormous pressure and the only people getting a PCR (nose and throat swab) should be those who have COVID-19 symptoms; live in a household with a confirmed COVID-19-positive case; Interstate travellers and international arrivals are not required to have a PCR test and should instead undertake Rapid Antigen Tests, as per the guidelines for the respective states and territories. Symptomatic arrivals will be required to get a PCR as soon as possible and isolate until a negative result is received. If the PCR test is positive, the arrival must treat themselves as a positive case. This applies to people who are fully or partially vaccinated, as well as those not vaccinated. 30 COVID-19 cases have been excluded following further investigation, bringing the total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 209,862. Of the 22,577 cases reported to 8pm last night, 4,297 are from South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 3,920 are from South Western Sydney LHD, 3,670 are from Western Sydney LHD, 2,613 are from Sydney LHD, 2,238 are from Northern Sydney LHD, 1,811 are from Hunter New England LHD, 1,023 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 809 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, 715 are from Central Coast LHD, 306 are from Northern NSW LHD, 203 are from Southern NSW LHD, 195 are from Mid North Coast LHD, 154 are from Murrumbidgee LHD, 152 are from Western NSW LHD, 16 are from Far West LHD, and 451 are yet to be assigned to an LHD.
