7 AUGUST Here in Australia. The Delta Wave goes from bad to worse , shows no apparent sign in NSW of the curve flattening anytime soon. NSW 319 Delta cases overnight in NSW ( inc 4 in Newcastle / Lake Mac , 1 in Armidale ), 2 more deaths . The 3rd Wave is nudging 5000 Delta cases already , and it's only been 7 weeks. Cases in on-campus student accommodation at the Uni , my local big shopping precinct closed for deep cleaning after several shops in Charlestown Sqr have been identified by contact tracers as exposure sites , along with the ER at the local regional hospital ( John Hunter Hospital ). Armidale LGA has been forced into a circuit breaker hard lockdown after infected people took to Northern Express to the area while knowing they were infected. There are fears that passengers who were infected at Broadmeadow Stn and on the XPT have spread Delta very widely in Northern NSW All communities are on alert , especially Dungog Singleton Muswellbrook Scone Tamworth Narrabri and Moree. Victoria 29 Delta cases overnight in Victoria ( many in schools and community housing high rises AGAIN ). Queensland 13 Delta cases in Qld (in 1 in Cairns) Tasmania The Sydney resident who travelled illegally who travelled from Sydney via Vic to Tasmania is infected with Delta. In the NT, Howard Springs Quarantine Centre is nearing full capacity , the influx of OG team members , press and AOG officials returning from Tokyo via Darwin and immediately to 14 days quarantine have had a big impact. The TOG have been far from safe wrt covid , positivity amongst Olympians, officials & intl press and dignitaries has been about 3.5%. So the people returning pose a substantial risk to us here in Australia because they are very likely returning infected with multiple strains ( the competition venues and OG Village are like petrudish for mixing everything and there have been too many Covid breeches on site ), despite most these people being vaccinated . Federal Health Dept & National Covid Cabinet have determined that Delta and other virulent strains of Cov19 have been deemed a very high national threat : Infectious while at large in community data show contact tracing has been overwhelmed in Greater Sydney and that Delta is spreading widely and the Lite Lockdown V4 in place is not strong enough. Modelling Epidemiological curve regressions. Doubling every 9 days. Looking like the Greater Sydney Delta Wave is somewhat steeper than the trajectory followed by the Melbourne 2nd Wave trajectory.
