Mine does the sexy leg when she sleeps. But any feeder cricket you get is soft shelled. the reason yours dont chirp is because they are not mature yet. They are usually not mature when you buy them from a petstore. Let them stay in the keeper a few weeks and they WILL start chirping. All crickets chirp there is no such thing as a non chirping soft shelled cricket. Sorry. yours don't have wings right? Once they grow them that's hoe they chirp. Everyone is right, your beardie needs more crickets. And not evrryother day...every day for now. She is probably around 7-9 months, mine is 5 months and 10inches. You obviously didn't do much homework on beardies if you got her without a uvb bulb, and listened to a petstore clerk. I talked to the "reptile manager" in petsmart who has 5 beardies at home who told me you can put 3 together in a 20 gal with calci sand or walnut shell, a 25 watt bulb, never said anything about a basking spot or uvb, and feed them dragon pellets every 3-5 days. Everyone is just trying to look out and help you and your dragon. But you were given false info, its not your fault and a shame that the people we think we can listen to in petstores give such wrong info. Google everything being debated here and you will see. He is also right about the crickets not being digested because its too cold. And what do you mean she pants? If she opens her mouth under warmer light she is gaping to release heat because her bodys at max temp and she is enjoying basking. It's usually too cold if you don't ever see them do this. I hope you get a uvb bulb soon and search the internet so you can see we just want to help. Noone is putting you down or insulting you.
BDalton,I only buy fresh crickets and don't keep them more than 2 days at a time. I buy them by the dozen and on Fri, buy 2 dozen, because they're closed on Sunday. She won't eat more than that. She does eat all she wants; sometimes I think too little, but that's just her.
I did my homework before I got her and a pet store was not the one who told me no UVB bulb. The previous owner did. The owner of 5 beardies said the same thing. She happens to be the daughter of a pet store owner. She has 10 yrs experience with beardies. Is that enough do you think? The previous owner gave me a regular household bulb which I changed to a stronger intense basking spot. My beardie is not hurting in any way. She pants (yes opens her mouth, gasps, whatever) when she's hot. That's not a problem to me. She also sticks her tongue out when she's HUNGRY and goes to her food bowl. I guess she's pretty smart. I'm sorry if I confused everyone on the pet store thing, it's my autism speaking. Sometimes I get things mixed up like who what where when and how. That's why I can't be a reporter.
Also, thank you BDalton for the info about her age. I was unsure as the previous owner didn't know, only that she had her for 3 months and couldn't afford to feed 2 reptiles. She had 5 dogs, 3 cats, a camelion and other assorted animals. I have a gerbil, fish, 4 dogs (one geriatric), a bird and Allie. I can well afford to feed crickets if I can feed the others.
Anyway, I didn't say anyone was insulting me, I said AS got insulted. You guys can drop this convo now. It's over. Moderator, please close this thread.
I got Allie last Saturday with very little research, experience, and only a few items for her. It's been a rocky start because I got three different stories from two different people and misleading websites.
I'm sorry, lying to get your way is really absurd. Everyone on this site is merely looking out for the best interest of your animal. If you would rather start arguments than care for her properly, that is your prerogative, but you shouldn't blame people for trying to help. Just as some people have difficulty reading social cues in person, social cues are entirely absent from print. Anything characterizing unpleasantness in my posts is coming from your perspective. There is no inflection, no cues what so ever, only the words. You are feeling defensive about my assessment of your bearded dragon's situation and attacking me because you are not willing to admit you are wrong. Here is my solution. Attack me, tell me that I am wrong and you are right and then go fix the problems. That way, your beardie will thrive and you can still have some one to blame.
Look here Atlas, I do not lie! That's the first stupid thing you've said. i'm not saying you're stupid, what you said is stupid. What IS wrong with you? You have just about the same experience I have with your dragon, plus 3 months, from what you say. Now you're harassing me because I don't believe you? Do you even know what AUTISM is? I doubt it. Go look it up and look up the various spectrums. In the meantime I'm reporting you to the site for harassment, after I said this convo is over! OVER! Everyone else is respectful. You are NOT! If my perceptions are wrong, you are giving that impression to me. You only. Crickets - you must get them free, because college students barely can get by unless supported by wealthy parents. You're just a kid. Grow up!
PLUS YOU ARE A KNOW IT ALL, WHO KNOWS VERY LITTLE. In my opinion. I have asked the moderator to close the thread due to your harassment. Thanks for derailing my thread.
I suggest we either get back to the main topic or stop conversing over the public forums. If you want to call each other names and fight take it to PMs please.
He is blocked now. I don't have to read his comments, good or bad. Some people are just disagreeable. Especially college students. I know I was one once.
This OP has requested that this thread be closed, so it's been locked. The answers weren't what the OP wanted, so am locking this thread. This OP has also asked people not to PM. The original question was if stretching out a leg was normal, and that was the only question. The tone of some answers were not very positive, so am closing this thread. In the future, please stick to the topic.
