his UVB is a long tube. Brand and bulb please --- where in the tank is it -- I would get the surface basking temp down to 95-100 taken w/ a digital probe thermometerThank you, thank you --- you've all given me a little confidence ... I'm a little afraid to literally hand feed him (I've been using tongs) because I don't want to be bitten and when he first decided he hated me he suddenly made himself as big and black as he c.ould and started to lunge at me. That was a little intimidating!! How bad is a bite?? I'm pretty tough but I read and imagine too much ...
I think his basking temperature is good - 103.3 to 105 and his UVB is a long tube.
I do feed him superworms and dubias and I have just ordered BSFL for him (thank you - I think - KarrieRee!!).
I so want my story to be as good as each of yours ...wow climbing my leg to fall asleep on my shoulder!! ??
He does spend a lot of time at the front of his tank acting as if he wants out - until I put my hand in ... Desperate for Monday when my/his new enclosure arrives ...
My boy was around 8 or 9 months old and the bite did get through the first layer of skin but almost no blood. They don't have real teeth, they are part of the chin bone.Thank you, thank you --- you've all given me a little confidence ... I would add a bite at the front or sides isn't to bad. They have a Boney ridge plate in the middle. You shouldn't get that far into their mouth but if you do it can be a really bad day for you.My boy was around 8 or 9 months old and the bite did get through the first layer of skin but almost no blood. So it's not that bad. Don't show him you are intiminated and don't pull back if he puffs up. Just stay calm and hold still until he calms. He will soon learn you don't mean him harm.
In my opinion he is behaving exactly the way he should. He dosen't know you yet, so he should shy away and puff up and he should still do this to strangers after he got used to you. You want him tame *to you* but you don't want a toy that will just let anyone do anything to him.
Luis for example will let me touch him in almost any way I want but he almost bit the vet when he tried to hold him
