Anthy is now one year old, almost to the day, so even though this is her second winter with me it's her first time brumating. For the past week (it took me that long to figure out what was going on) she won't bask, eat, or let me handle her too much. I'm getting her a fecal on Tuesday to make sure she parasite-free, and she seems happy to just sleep all day. Right now she's in her viv in a "cave" made of a fleece blanket. I know to bathe her once a week to keep her hydrated and offer food occasionally, too, such a chicken babyfood, but what should I do as far as lighting/heating? Can I replace her normal basking bulb with an energy saving house bulb? I keep my room at a constant 70F minimum, and I'll probably put her in my bed on my heated blanket if that's okay to do. Should I keep her Reptisun 10.0 on during the 8 hours her lights are on? Do I even need to have her lights on? I heard some owners put their beardies in a shoebox. Is that acceptable? Can I have her in my bed at all times? How do I know when she's done brumating, will she crawl out of her "cave" on her own and bask?
Sorry for all the questions! This is my our first brumation experience, and she's the only one who knows what to do!
P.S. I bought some canvas and I'm going to make her an insulated "beardie bag" lined with fleece with a pocket under her for a heat pack. I can take her with me to classes! I can't wait. I'll upload photos at some point.
