Help USARK put the Python Ban to rest in 2012! Please participate and help the Reptile Nation overcome the most devistating attack the Herp Community has ever faced!! Please read and follow the instructions to ensure your voice is heard by President Obama, the US Congress and the US Senate.

This ban would make many species of python and all species and subspecies of boa constrictor illegal to keep. Click the link for more info.

I will look at this. I don't know very much about snakes, and I don't feel qualified to either oppose or support the legislation.

I for one think this ban is rediculous. If FL is the only state then why in the hell put them on the fed list? Why cant FL make a state law? I hear the roc is very close behind. Guess what lizard lovers the Tegu and the Iguana is a huge menis in FL and are considered not native. also it would not suprise me that these lizards will be targeted in the future.
I personally think this is FL door to place much more exotics on the list as they go.

I hate that I live in Florida sometimes. I live in NORTH FLORIDA and none of these lizards will survive the winter and take over my area. It gets into the 20's here in the winter. It snowed here a little last year.

But we have a long state and down there at the bottom yes, these animals are a problem.

I see huge green iguanas in the parking lot of my friends apartment every summer. It's amazing they survive in the wild down south but they look better than any I see in captivity.

Thats my whole point of this. Because the everglades are having issues and they really are having a time with these snakes and lizards but to put it on a federal level is just not good. I would love to know why Buffalo, minnisotta and chicago are included to name a few. Theres no way this is a fed level issue.
Feral hogs yes a US issue snakes not so much. And where in the hell is PETA? The one time we actually need them and you are not hearing anything about them. Im not even a snake guy and I see this as threat to other exotic animals.

Haven't you heard? Snakes are influencing Global Warming so we won't have winters anymore, and they can survive in MN now. Duh. LOL

Last time I checked, PETA is against keeping reptiles as pets so if anything they probably support the ban.

But is it only against the 9 huge snake species it listed like Brums, Retics, ect? Or all pythons?
TBH I'm on the fence about keeping enourmous snakes like that, personally.

Duh my bad ha ha

It's not so the reptile as it is FL being 30 years to late and allowing the Feds to decide pets now. Watch my words they won't stop. The Tegu is high on that list and so is monitors..

PeTA and all the other radical animal rights organizations are against all human/animal partnerships. That is, they oppose not only animals for meat and dairy, but also animals for agricultural or transportation, like horses and oxen as well as all "pet" and "companion" animals. They would rather see animals starve or slaughtered needlessly than have them live in good homes with good people or feed the hungry. Animal Rights is a giant sick joke.

Animal welfare is a different matter, and focuses on proper care and husbandry for all species. MUCH more reasonable.

I do believe the python ban will become severely problematic as it prohibits people from moving certain species already in their possession across state lines. People have to move, giant snakes need to be able to move with them, not to mention the fact that this is opening up the door for them to start banning all sorts of other animals because they could potentially be problematic. Every animal has the potential to be problematic in their own way, and discriminating based on inconsequential information is going to get us in a lot of trouble. My wolf-dog has never bitten ANYONE, he is good with other dogs and children, but he is illegal in the state where I live and requires a permit and special fencing in most other states. My domestic shorthair kitten did bite some one, and they had to go to the hospital and needed multiple rounds of antibiotics, cats are legal everywhere. No one has ever fallen off my horse and been severely injured, but I have fallen off other people's horses and suffered lasting brain injuries... Some people neglect or abuse their children, most do not. Some people neglect or abuse their animals or release them into the wild. Most do not. Responsible owners and caregivers should not be punished for the stupidity of the minority. The python ban should be lifted.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
