Background:
I got my bearded dragon (Abe) almost one month ago. (It'll be one month on the first.) I don't know the gender or the age, but I assume he (It's easier to just say "he".) is probably maybe two months old or somewhere in the area. He is about six inches long. I don't know how much he weighs, but probably not very much because he seems very small. He's in a 20 gallon tank with a Reptisun 10 UVB bulb. I have him on paper towels right now since he's so small and I know other substrates are dangerous for him. I feed him small crickets dusted with calcium powder. He doesn't eat the pellets you can get from pet stores. Currently, the only greens I offer him are tiny pieces of kale that I keep misted with water, but he doesn't touch it. I handle him daily, he absolutely loves being able to climb on my shoulder or sit on my hand.
Wednesday night, Abe was acting kind of strangely before his bedtime. He was very lazy and he slept in an odd place. (By "odd", I mean unusual because he usually sleeps on the other side of the tank partially hidden under the paper towel. This probably seems like an insignificant observation but it struck me as very odd and made me feel nervous.) Thursday morning, he wasn't awake yet when I turned his daytime lights on. This is also strange because he usually is already on his rock waiting for me. All day he never got on his rock and just laid there. He kept his head very low. I decided maybe he was just grumpy and wanted some attention. I got him out and he started acting very strangely. His head started moving quickly back and forth and he was running in circles. He had trouble walking and seemed to lean to one side. He appeared to be blind, running into things. He also wasn't eating and had not gone to the bathroom. I knew there was something very wrong and immediately took him to the vet. The vet's diagnosis was neurological problems and set gave me some liquid calcium to try in hopes that it was just a calcium problem and nothing more severe (like a virus). I got him home and gave him a drop of the calcium. He could not eat crickets because he could only run in circles and tremble. I managed to get him to lick some baby food from my fingers. Then, he preceded to have horrible "seizures" on and off for the next hour. I don't know if they were seizures, but he was basically flipping like a fish out of water. When it stopped, he was very tired but he was able to eat a little more baby food. Afterwards, I stayed up all night watching him as he slept. He did use the bathroom twice this day. Once on the way to the vet and again during the seizures.
Friday, he was surprisingly excellent. I immediately replaced his UVB with the Reptisun and gave him another drop of calcium. I also took him outside for a while to get some sunlight. He ate a few crickets but not a lot. He had no signs of spasms or twitches or anything of the such and seemed great and active.
Saturday, he had no twitches or spasms but he started opening his mouth a little. There seems to be a tiny little popping sound when he opens his mouth. He also puffs his throat a little when he does this. He did not eat but did go to the bathroom twice.
He isn't constipated and doesn't have diarrhea. He shed probably around the 16th. He had been eye bulging last week (Wednesday and Thursday). Also, the vet has told me not to use the powder calcium supplement while I am using the liquid calcium medication.
I'm sorry this is long but I'm trying to provide as much information as I can think of. Is there anything you can see that may be a sign of something being wrong? Is there anything I can do to help him? Any information is appreciated. Also, any general tips to keep him healthy and happy are also welcome. He's my baby and I'm very worried about him!
Thanks
