I think snails are "hermaphrodites" -- both male and female in the same individual, but I hate to call them "it" because it makes it sound like they're not living things. The English language is long overdue for a gender-neutral personal pronoun, but best not to get me started about that one... I'm always after my husband to be careful not to get calcium powder in Puff's eyes when he feeds him -- "don't dump the bugs out of the container right in his face after you just dusted them..." etc. Makes it easier for him to catch them right away but I'm always afraid he's going to get the powder in his eyes. So far so good, but I worry about my "baby" and fuss at my husband when he doesn't do things exactly my way. Yes, it's always good to do the research before you get the critter so you have a good idea what you're getting yourself into and so you can be reasonably sure you can meet their needs. :study: But even then you usually run into some surprises -- there are some things you can only learn from experience. My husband got a big kick out of hearing me say, "Squirmles didn't read the snake books," and predicted that I would also be saying, "Puff didn't read the bearded dragon books."
