Hard to imagine how totally asleep they can be! He is such a major part of your lives it's understandable how much you would be missing him. Do you ever just want to softly shake him awake? "Hey you, are you still in there?" I think I'm going to be very bad at brumating.
I know what is going to happen....we will wind up with a new baby for each of us every winter to give us something to do while the adults are sleeping...
I've only done it twice so far. The first time, he was dead asleep for most of it. This time around, he was a little more awake. I do it all in darkness and silence so I don't disturb him. He pretty much just looked at me, and gave me a lick, and then closed his eyes for the majority of the time, but I could tell he was actually awake.
That's really neat, Otto! I wouldn't have thought of doing it in the dark but that is a good idea and I will remember it when it's Rufus' time. How long has Chief been snoozing?
I can't even imagine going three weeks without my babies! Hoodoo has never really brumated in 11yrs.it will be interesting to see what Tyrus decides to do next year. I hope he never brumates.
Im sending a wake up call to chief as I type this
No no no... not yet. As much as I miss him, I will be on vacation this coming week. It would be a lot easier if he stayed asleep until after I got back. THEN... wake up call!!!!!
It's something that bearded dragons have been doing for hundreds of year. During the winter months, food and water becomes scarce, so beardies will slow their metabolisms down to a standstill and go to sleep.
