My bud Budo doesn't enjoy handling at all, but he's getting better about it, and I am willing to be patient. We have acheived a record of 10 seconds in my lap with no struggling, clawing, or ruffling of the beard. As a way of getting him adjusted to people, I have been letting him run around in my bedroom. I leave his sliding door open so he can choose when he wants to come out, and go back in when he gets chilled or stressed (though he hasn't showed the slightest signs of stress since he moved in! He is one self-absorbed, brave, ruthless boy!). When he spots a corner of the room he hasn't yet claimed as his own, he waddles over as fast as he can (which is pretty fast for such a little guy) and bobs his head, looking all around for intruders.
Yesterday, he discovered my desk, which is at the other side of my small room. He sat underneath it, bobbed his head a bit, and was very still. Silly me, I thought he was either lost or too scared to go back to his enclosure, so I picked him up and put him outside his door, so he knew he could go back in. He looked at me like I was mentally challenged and very insuperior, and ran back to the desk. He is so funny!
So far, he hasn't noticed my snake Cu in her little bin on top of his mansion. She is usually sleeping in a hide, but when she isn't, she keeps a close eye on the little moving thing, which makes me nervous. No doubt Budo would become very afraid if he were to notice the hungry (and fasting ) snake!
Anyways, feel free to share your bedroom adventures! I'm sure I'll have a few more to share as each day goes by!
