Figured I’d make a post here showing the first aid kit I’ve put together for my two rescue dragons as an example of some stuff that’s good to have on hand should anything occur that may need some minor treatment.
I store it all in an easy to access container with a secure lid.
The contents are:
— Fabric bandaids I can cut to size as required for a simple cover to keep something clean or otherwise protected.
— spray plaster in the event of a minor open wound That needs sealing (I’ve used this with success before on wild garden and water skinks I’ve found with punctures to seal the wounds after I’ve cleaned them up and made sure it’s all ok. This plaster will wear off over time on its own which is great for these wild skinks so I don’t have to go find them at a later date to remove a dressing)
— betadine spray for wound antiseptic treatment. I apply this with a q-tip or cotton bud on and around minor injuries etc.
— leucoplast plaster tape. This is a waterproof tape I can cut/tear to size. I use this over the top of dressings applied to areas like toes and tail tips just to better waterproof it and help secure the dressings.
— some sort of container for diluting betadine if required (the bottle cap) and a container for holding liquids (like betadine or saline or water) I use the metal container for this.
— non-adherent dressing pads. A non stick pad I can cut to size for some cushioning that isn’t going to stick to a wound.
— gauze pads. A dressing I can cut to size to add some cushioning under a dressing where the non-stick quality isn’t needed.
— A pair or straight bladed manicure scissors for cutting dressings to size.
— saline for cleaning/washing out injuries.
