Baby BD Attacks!!!

I have a baby (about 3 months now). I got him when he was only about 4 weeks old. Everything was fine with him, but now he's a little maniac!!! He eats and sheds fine. Everything seems to be normal except when I stick my hand in his tank to pick him up he tries to eat me. After I have him in my hand for a little while and I rub his chin he calms down, but what is making him jump at me when I try to pick him up. I have 2 other BD, and I've never had this problem. He acts like he's on speed.

My beardie, Nel was like that for a while after I got her. While she's a little older than yours, its probably the same issue. If they feel threatened they'll gape and bite, especially if you approach them from above to pick them up. With mine, I just dealt with the biting and kept handling her daily to show her that "she's not the boss" so to speak. After a month or so, she settled down and now acts like a perfectly normal beardie.

Aww well its becoming a juvie so maybe its acting out like a teenager? Dont give up! Maybe put your hand in palm down and leave it in there so he notices your not a threat. After a couple days, move your hand closer to him with your palm up and allow him to climb if he wants to. I am sure he will grow out of it.

Hmm, my boyfriend's tarantula behaves similarly. He tells me he used to be able to hold her. But that one day, he reached into the tank to move something, and she pounced on him suddenly, realized he was too big to eat, and scuttled off again. He says it all happened within like two seconds- super scary.

However, two nights ago I was able to remove a piece of junk from her cage... I touched the bedding with a pencil to see how she responded; she didn't, so I reached in. Nothing happened.

SO. Maybe have someone else reach in! See how your beardie responds, haha.
Or maybe he will just eventually get sick of doing it.

I get attacked sometimes, sometimes I have to chase Lindy all over the tank to be caught. Then other times he's just as cool and collected as he could be. I think at times they think it's a game. I know the bite hurts a little but you know they really can't do damage. Just keep trying.

Hi there.

My rescue dragon had never been handled, and although she never hissed/puffed she would go to bite me and PANIC if i tried to hold her.
I used the following tricks that helped her settle down:
- put your hand in her tank, flat, but dont touch her. she'll see your not there to grab her.
- once youve done for a day or so start only hand feeding her (wriggley mealworms work best) if she goes to bite you. be brave and try not to flinch. just raise your hand up and remove the food. she'll soon learn biting isnt a good idea.
- then go for handling her again but do it an hour or so after lights out when she'll be sleepy and bored of fighting. if she doesnt like the beardie burito try wearing a dressing gown. Dexter loves mine.

and repeat!

My dragon does the same thing, he is all cool when I am in there hustling crickets to him but as soon as i go to hold him he flips out and tries to run away until i catch him and he chills out. Their bites feel really weird though :?

when i first had my bd he would puff up and his beard would go black but hes been fine except a bit of puffing up since i put him on my dressing gown. he loves it when hes shedding, especially on his head.
