Hi all! I forget if it belongs here or in health. Our stubborn Big Lizard (17 months almost 1lb) decided to try and dive bomb of my daughter (my hubby was with her when this happened, I was downstairs with my younger one). as he came close to landing on floor my daughter caught him and apparently she heard a snap. I did not learn of this until 24 hrs later after she came down and hubby and her said he was blackbearding because he couldnt do what he wanted--well no wonder he black bearded! WHY you may ask???
The next day his arm was hanging funny. We got him into the vet this morning (who I think is in love with him) and learned that he had BROKEN HIS ARM!!!! He is to wear a splint for 2 weeks, get outside in the regular sun up to 2 hrs a day, and still take his calcium 3-4 days a week. On the positive side he conveniently pooped a GOOD poop while he was there and she did an immediate test and he still is clear of parasites!!!!
Here are some pictures of him in his splint--he isnt very happy about it as his rock was removed and I left his cactus, his log and then made some piles of towels so he could get close enough to the UVB and basking light but also get down if he wishes too.
This poor guy has been thru a lot but seems happy anyway at 17 months.
Silly boy--we told him no breaking the other arm in the process!
Thanks Jess! He broke the other arm 6 months ago and as Tracie and others on here will tell you he is one that was apparently born to a calcium deficient mother as the 1st broken arm-- we did not know but he had other healed bones at the time. He has been through so much--smoke in his cage, MBD, 2 broken bones but still is the best loving animal in the whole world!!
thanks Mickeysmomma--he is doing OK right now--he is stressed from his new splint and the vet visit-as he wont eat for me today. May be baby food day tomorrow
no it is called force feeding with a needleless syringe--i try not to do it unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.
Darn stinker is getting out of his splint--will call vet on monday as I am not paying $85 for an emergency appt to put it back on
Oh, poor Hermes and your daughter must have felt terrible. Sorry to hear about the accident. So, he's managing to get his cast off? What stinker! Just try your best to secure it for now. Is he able to maneuver around pretty well?
Diane--yes he is mostly out of it and I am afraid to try and pull it back over him as I dont want to damage him more, Will call the vet in the am and see if she will redajust for min charge.
He seems to get around fine--not blackbearding AS MUCH today but still wont eat for us. Hoping to get him to atl least drink something later.
I was so sorry to hear about Hermes breaking his arm, please give him an extra cuddle from me and my family(beardies included, they are so much like our children). We will have him in our thoughts and best wishes for him to get better. He does look cute in his cast tell him ALf says he looks very handsome LOLOL.
well the stinker got out of his splint. So the vet had me just take it off. He seems happier without it on--but still trying to be a daredevil but interest in food is minimal--force feeding has begun (I hate doing that but he must eat and poop --no poop for 2-3 days either)
I will let him know his OL(online) friends wish him to get well soon
