Oh hi, it's been a little while.

I guess I was brumating with Oscar over the past several months. Last time I posted was in August I think, and Oscar was having some medical issues. To really put it in a nutshell though, he started eating dubias like candy again, his neuro symptoms appeared to cease and then he started...

    Some unfortunate updates...

So, I haven't been posting as much as I was here lately, and it's mostly because Oscar has been keeping me very preoccupied. I work night shift, so on days that I'm scheduled to go in at night, I sleep during the day. My usual routine is to feed Oscar before I go to bed (around 7-8am), and then...

    He's mad at me...

So, while feeding Oscar this morning I accidently tipped a cup that I dust his roaches with in his enclosure. So about 50 dubias ran all over the place, and while I was hastily trying to catch them before they could hide, Oscar was running around all excited and I accidentally bopped him on the...

    Bearded dragon size.

Baby/juvenile beardies are simply expensive to feed. You can minimize it by providing a variety of feeders, but there is really no way of getting around the cost. I've been spending about 80-120 USD per month on dubia roaches alone. I bought adults for breeding, but they can't produce quickly...

bearded dragon is not Pooping (NEW BEARDIE OWNER)

Has she been straining at all like she's trying to poop? Right now I'd say just keep her well hydrated and keep up with the soaks. If she's not lethargic or symptomatic of impaction, I wouldn't be super worried yet. Also, I'd suggest you stop feeding dry crickets and switch to live feeders...

    Is he fat?

Pictures really don't do him justice, but he has really fattened up over the past month or so. He's going on 6 months old. Definitely over a foot long. I don't currently have a kitchen scale to weigh him though. Any suggestions for good scales?

Would he be able to eat this worm

Mine tackles some pretty big hornworms and silkworms with no problem, tbh. The hornworms are especially intimidating, and very messy when he chomps down, but he's able to eat them with no issues. My guy really chews his food very thoroughly though, so bear that in mind as well.

    Dart shedding. Again!!

Mine has been shedding for what feels like a month now. He started and completed a full body shed about a month ago, then his front legs started shedding about two days later, then his back legs, and now his head is starting up again. I swear, I'm bathing him almost every day at this point. He...

    My Beardie loves climbing out!

I agree with letting him out to roam, but what are your temps? 150watt is really high power.

    Sleeping in food bowl?

Sounds like it's just tired. I take mine out for nightly snuggles just before lights out, and he falls asleep on me pretty quickly. If I put him back in his enclosure while he's still awake, though, he falls asleep within minutes where ever I put him.

    How to Bond

There seem to be two opposite schools of thought on this. Most people suggest that you start by just being present for your beardie so it gets to used to you being around. Eventually start placing your hand in its enclosure without touching it until it either comes to you or shows little to no...

Can beardies make it hard to breathe?

I second what kingofnobbys said... especially the last bit. A sudden allergy to insect fras is surprisingly common. Some suggest you don't breed insects for that reason. Prolonged exposure can cause an allergy to develop.

Strange beardie behaviour?very active, not eating

They can be very picky eaters for sure. At her age though, she can go a bit without eating. Just keep offering food everyday and she'll eat when she's hungry. That said, make sure to powder her food, for sure. Seeing that she's having such an ordeal acclimating to her viv (I'll get to possibly...

    Lethargic and growing.

What is he in now? If it's smaller than a 20 long then it definitely needs to be upgraded. I would even recommend upgrading from a 20 long. Beyond that I would even recommend at least 75 gallons for his lifelong home.

    Silkworms

So, I got some silkworms for my guy recently. It was his first time ever having them. He ate them readily enough (really went after the big ones), and got a fat belly on him. The next morning though, he pooped first thing like he usually does, and it was very liquidy. There were solids in it...

    Fungal infection? Or..???—Help

It kind of looks like a fungal infection, but I don't know for sure. I'd suggest a visit to the vet for a positive diagnosis. How old is he? You might want to change his diet up a bit regardless.

where would you recommend where to buy roaches

I just received by first order from Mulberry Farms (http://www.mulberryfarms.com/) of silkworms, hornworms, and bsfl. Shipping is a bit more than some other places I've used, but their prices compensate for it pretty well. They have a lot of specials going on right now too. I got three cups of...

Bought too many calci worms (phoenix)

If you have a way to keep them at 50-60 F then you can keep them for quite awhile. Otherwise they will keep for about 2 weeks at room temp. What size are they are though? And how big is your beardie? Mine is still a juvenile, but all the bsfl I've got have been so small that he could probably go...

Rocco has turned out to be a girl! Help with name change?

As my beardie gets bigger I'm starting to think he is probably a she as well. I've been calling him/her Oscar since day one though, and I think I'll probably keep the name regardless of what I find out. I think a girl named Oscar is funny anyway. So I say keep Rocco if you like the name.

    What are the best substrates?

I'm a new beardie owner, and I don't really have any strong opinions about substrate, but if there truly is any sort of risk involved with loose substrate, then I'm not willing to take it. Especially not with my juvenile. People advocating for loose substrate have definitely been in the...
