My bearded dragon is really small and apparently has a favourite stick?! He will lie on the stick ALL time, even if it is away from the basking area, if I place him down on his basking log he will run to his stick.... it is a peice of grape vine and I was wondering if this is normal...

I may be getting a bearded dragon soon and I wanted to know if a mix of sand and clay would work as a good substrate? It would be able to retain its shape and allow burrowing, but would also not be too loose that the bearded dragon would invest it. I'm thinking it may form like "excavator clay"...
