    Broken jaw

Thank you! It hit my children hardest, he was their favourite, so chilled out and calm when being held, and so much character. How is Evee doing? What did you decide?

    Broken jaw

Thank you for asking! He recovered so well, he was on soft insects for a few weeks, then was back on regular ones: supers, dubs, and crickets. He was doing so well but I worried about good nutrition so I tried to encourage him to eat some greens. I was too confident, so gave him a parsley leaf...

    Another swollen limb thread!

He's very fussy! He did decide he loves iceberg lettuce today, which figures, as it's so low in nutrients that it's barely even a vegetable. As he's also fussy about drinking, it's a good way to get some hydration in though. He's still fairly active when stimulated, though I can see his knees...

    Another swollen limb thread!

So the veggies etc he'll willingly eat are: spaghetti squash, zucchini, peas, and berries. Assuming I keep the berries to a minimum (I avoided them as staples for my tortoises because I'd heardo the fruit sugars could cause colic) are those veggies enough for a balanced diet or should I keep...

    Another swollen limb thread!

Sorry for the late reply! Thank you for being so thorough. So fixing the light, cut back to bugs just twice a week, and offer veggies daily? He's doing well, but does seem to have stiff joints. I do have a good reptile vet locally, but I'm hoping I can try the simple fixes first, the tests get...

    Another swollen limb thread!

I have a couple of rescued beardies, this one I've had about 6 months. He has a little chin deformity meaning he can't fully close his jaw, but has a gap at the tip where his tongue pokes out a bit while he sleeps, but it's pretty cute... When I got him he had one really swollen foot, but as he...

    Broken jaw

Ate a hornworm last night and a butterworm this morning! As far as soft feeders go, will he be okay nutritionally with butterworms for a few days? I've also got supers and dubia, think either of those is fairly soft?? Ooh, maybe a freshly-shed one? The vet said he's okay to start on crickets, so...

    Broken jaw

Sorry for the delayed response, but no news is good news! We're just back from his FINAL vet visit! He was sedated and x-rayed today, his jaw is all healed! The bone was slightly displaced, but having it immobilised for so long meant that there's a nice thick repair callus which has formed. The...

    Broken jaw

Thank you so much for following his story! The vet wasn't optimistic after his first surgery, even less so after this one, it took him much longer to wake up from the anesthesia this time. He gave us a glove filled with hot water for the journey, Draco was in a shoe box and slept for most of...

    Broken jaw

Just dropped him off, the little toad got a nail caught in those threads you can see securing the tube, the ones that GO THROUGH HIS SKIN and pulled that out, plus half the tube... Luckily it happened just as I was putting him in the box to go to the vet so I'm just hoping he hasn't done...

    Broken jaw

Oh I see! I think we'll have you go for it, he's had no food or fluids for a week now, so if he doesn't have the tube replaced, it means another 3 weeks of no food or fluids, not sure he'd survive that. The other option is euthanasia, which my husband is very much against. Our thinking is that...

    Broken jaw

He's had the surgery, it was to insert the feeding tube through the side of his neck, into his stomach. It was the only way to feed him while immobilising his broken jaw for 6 weeks to allow it to heal. The tube got blocked sometime between his last feed on Friday and his first feed on Saturday...

    Broken jaw

Yes, before I'd give him antibiotics, then formula, then water, all through the syringe. It flowed easily. Now there's no movement at all, even with gentle pressure. I'm trying with the wire, whatever the blockage is, it feels dense but sticky, like gum. I'm following the vet's instructions, and...

    Broken jaw

It got blocked sometime after 4pm Friday, I noticed it when feeding him Saturday morning. I've been trying warm water and gentle syringing a couple of times a day, but no luck. His temps are 110 at the hottest spot, the vet wanted it bumped up, down to 85 in the coolest spot, but he tends to...

    Broken jaw

It will be another 4 weeks or so, unfortunately. The blockage could only be from his stomach, I flush water through after each formula feed (formula is mixed up to the consistency of whole milk, the tube is very thin), so something must have backed up. He's been on an exclusively liquid diet...

    Broken jaw

The vet tried to clear the blockage, but no luck. Draco is booked in for surgery to replace the tube on Friday, but the vet gave me a tool to try at home, in the hope that I can clar the blockage before then.

    Broken jaw

He's still perky, but his tube got blocked over the weekend, so he's booked in to see the vet this afternoon. The vet wanted him on regular Ensure, but I put him on Repta Boost instead because I felt the nutrition was more appropriate and would help healing. I worked hard to mix the powder...

    Bearded dragon tail hanging

It doesn't look like there is much flesh left surrounding the bone at the point of the injury, that is fairly telling. Some vets prefer to minimise stress by giving antibiotics and waiting for the tail to drop off rather than put them through an amputation. Is your vet experienced with reptiles?

    Bearded dragon tail hanging

It does look like he'll probably lose it, I'm afraid, but he'll be fine. If the bone is exposed the vet ought to put him on a course of antibiotics, probably 2 weeks. Is your vet experienced with reptiles? If the appearance of the damage has changed significantly then it's worth going back to...

    Broken jaw

He's got no say in how much food he's taking in, poor thing! He gets 0.5cc of Repta Boost twice a day, along with Rept Aid, and antibiotics once a day. Had a small panic last night, his feeding tube got blocked. I left it overnight, but it was still blocked this morning. I put 0.4cc warm water...
