    Taking your dragon outdoors

I take Enkou on car rides and inside lizard friendly places (my local aquarium shop, pet stores, etc). I've also taken him out on my shoulder when I take my dog for a short walk. Enkou is super calm and relaxed and doesn't hardly even move while riding on me, either across my chest or on my...

    Perfect Beardie

Enkou was about four and a half months old when I got him, and he's been super relaxed and tame the whole time. Granted, I've only had him for just under two months, but yeah, I've felt so lucky so far! He only bearded at me once, and he didn't even darken it -- just puffed up for a brief...

Do i really need a water bowl

I started off with a water bowl that Enkou just ran through and otherwise ignored. So I've just been doing regular soaks and he seems fine. I'm thinking I'll need to get an eyedropper in case, but for the most part I dribble a little water by hand on his nose and he licks it up, or he just...

does anyone elses bearded dragon shed like this

I've only had Enkou for just over a month, almost a month and a half, but I've already noticed his shedding going in chunks too. When I first got him, his back legs and tail were in shed, then later his head and front legs went, and just recently his body. I thought it was strange, but yeah, I...

    PetCo abuse.

That's so awful. Those poor babies, sigh. I hate that pet shops can't be bothered to properly care for the animals that they sell to people. Thankfully on my visits to Petco or Petsmart, most of the enclosures are pretty clean and not overcrowded. But it is sad to see others kept in bad conditions.

    About to get a Beardie

For my lights I use a manual dial timer I bought from Walmart for around $10 or so. It's just like this one, except the plug is on the back, not on the side with the dial. It has two outlets, it's made by Brinks. It's easy to use, you just press down buttons around the dial for the duration you...

    **May Photo Competition Winners**

Congrats to everyone! This was my first time entering, it was fun! I'll have to make a habit of trying to enter when I can! (Pssst.. my forum name was spelled wrong on my ribbon. ;p Kilana, not Kilani. Hehe.)

    My Lost Bearded Dragon

I haven't lost my beardie, but I have lost my corn snake a couple times. I always found her in the most random places. Under a grocery bag that was on the floor in the kitchen, under the couch, behind the couch.. never in warm places. But I did the same thing for her that everyone has suggested...

    Burrowing

I've been thinking about getting/making a blanket of sorts for Enkou, because when I have him out for snuggles toward the end of his day, he definitely wiggles and nuzzles into my shirt and crook of my neck to get comfy and warm. But he only usually does it close to bedtime when we're relaxing...

    In-Store vs. Online

I've found that in store feeders are great to get through between shipments of online orders. They tend to be much more expensive, and depending on how they are cared for in the store, may not be the most nutritious. At Petsmart I pay $0.11 a cricket, but online depending on the quantity you...

Airlines that allow reptiles in cabin?

If you had to resort to a drive, I just had a friend make the couple day drive to move back here from another state, and she kept her beardie warm by using one of those old school red rubber hot water bottles, and a towel as a blanket. They also took him out for some sunlight periodically when...

Do any of you ever take your beardie out with you?

I've taken Enkou out twice.. well, two voyages into places and one car ride. Once on an outing to our local aquarium shop, the owner there is super cool and enjoys lizards, so he didn't mind at all. A couple kids came in and were interested, so I let them pet him. It was his first time out and...

Closing of One Eye - The trust game?

This has been boggling me for a long time! Well, a month anyway! I've had Enkou for a month, and he still does it to me from time to time. Most of the time he is lounging on my chest or shoulder while I walk around, sometimes he does it even when I am relaxed and laying back. Though when we're...

    Salad?

It's all a matter of trial and error, every beardie likes different things. My beardie tends to like collard greens better than turnip greens, but will eat both. He loves strawberries, is indifferent to kiwi, and likes to be hand fed tiny nibbles of watermelon. I've also added red bell peppers...

    New Beardie Parent Questions!

I usually have to give greens first to entice my dragon into eating them, otherwise they sit there mostly untouched because he would much rather have the delicious bugs! So I agree with trying the greens first before offering bugs. Though young dragons tend not to eat greens too much, so that...

    Is this normal?

I don't believe there has to be any particular reason for another lizard to bite, it could just see it as food, it could be picking on it, who knows. The important thing is the health and safety of your little ones. You don't want the biting to continue, or to spread to other areas. You could...

    where to give a bath

I use the bathroom sink, and will switch to a tupperware or plastic tote of some sort when he gets too big. I don't have access to a bath tub, just a shower, so that's not going to work, hehe.

    New beardie questions

I agree with the eating in private sentiment, sometimes I watch after I put food in the tank, and half the time he will stare at me until I "disappear" and then chow down. Silly creatures.

Could he really be doing this?

Enkou sits on his hammock and claws at the glass where his background is, too. But thankfully he's never done it in a way that hurts him. He doesn't do it very often, though, so I've never thought too much about it.
