Trying to increase tank warmth - am I doing it wrong?

What wattage flood would you recommend - if I end up changing the 150w black light bulb and 40w incandescent with one? The way I have his long UVA/UVB tube positioned; he can get within 8 inches of it for sure. The tube is a Zoo Med, 5 UVB 18in ReptiSun F15T8 (I said before it was 10 -...

Trying to increase tank warmth - am I doing it wrong?

Thank you so much for the reply! The viv is 2.5' x 2.5' x 1.5'. The top is a mesh metal. I have the long UV tube over one half of the tank, and the 40w and 150w black light bulb on the other half. Wingo has a big sloped rock that gets him up close to the heat lamp and incandescent (but it is...

Trying to increase tank warmth - am I doing it wrong?

Ok, I have had Wingo for about 4 years and he is healthy - other than not pooping on a regular basis. Many of you helped me through a rather traumatic time when he had not pooped for almost three months......he went to the vet and now, all is well thankfully. The vet told me my temps were fine...

    Not eating.....very lethargic

well, the vet says it is seasonal dormancy or something? I don't recall the exact name, but they say he looks absolutely perfect; they looked in his mouth, felt around his belly, took an x-ray (best bones they've ever seen in a reptile! :)), gave him a shot of vitamins. I feel dumb for taking...

    Not eating.....very lethargic

Some of you will remember my Dragon (Wingo) - I had quite the time with him a few months back; he had not pooped for over two months and he got very sick. He made it through, though, with some gentle nursing and care thankfully and many of you were helpful and we appreciated it so much. Well...

not as frequently as before, but I am getting him to eat a little about once a day.

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

Thanks to everyone for their advice and assistance through this difficult time for me and my sweet dragon. He is hanging in there and seems to be on the road to recovery. He will only eat from my hand now, which is a bit odd, but I get a kick out of it and don't mind a bit. He never used to...

do you have any suggestions for the syringe feeding - he HATES it and it's really hard to keep him still enough to even get the syringe emptied into his mouth. I have to really hold his head down and I'm so worried I'm going to hurt him and of course he hisses and turns pitch black from being...

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

Great news! His x-ray turned out good. There doesn't appear to be any additional walnut shell in there - there is some poop, but the vet said it looks normal. He said his bones look excellent too - I guess their bones can get in pretty bad shape from lack of food, etc. I am so happy, I could...

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

The vet wants to take an x-ray to see if he has a bunch more shell in there making it too painful to pass more or even impossible to pass more. The x-ray will answer the question of will he improve or not. If not, he says I may have to consider putting him down. I can't even explain how sad I...

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

Ok, we had poop happen last night! I ran a warmer than usual bath for him and lo and behold - out some came. He acted like it really hurt, though, poor guy. After I dried him off and put him back in his tank, I went to clean out the tub and was amazed at all the wood-like looking stuff that...

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

well, I am very sad to say that there has been no real improvement. I just called the vet and am expecting a returned call any time. no poop. wingo is not very interested in eating. I'm lucky if I can get him to eat 3 meal worms a day. He won't touch his greens - he normally loves...

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

well, not a great weekend. Wingo is not eating much at all. He actually seems perkier and more alert, but is only interested in basking. He won't drink water when I mist him. :( He will only eat an occasional meal worm. He is taking his meds well, but spends the next few hours all stressed...

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

I am using a reptile pro biotic powder - I didn't mention that. I hope whatever is ailing him gets cured.....but I am very glad to hear he is not impacted. They don't perform the surgery here, so the vet said I'd have to go to Santa Rosa, CA - that's like 7 hours away!

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

Ok, here is an update. Unfortunately, there still hasn't been any poop. :( I soaked him in warm water for almost 2 hours last night, massaged his belly gently, and got him to lick a few drops of olive oil/applesauce off my finger. I had quite an emotional evening and cried quite a lot too...

Oh and by the way - a co-worker may be able to get me some slate tile to use for his ground cover. Another post said that was a good thing to use.

I purchased a 150w CHE this afternoon and am confident it will help raise the basking spot to the correct temp. Since they don't like light at night (I have heard), I like the CHE for a constant heat source. Wouldn't an additional reflector bulb or something of that nature (as long as it's...

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

I believe we have a local vet that does occasionally see reptiles and such. I may be contacting him shortly if nothing happens with Wingo. :( A quick update, though it makes me feel like a bad mother; the digital probe thermometer only registered 90 degrees on the warm side of the tank, so it...

Do the vets have to cut them open to remove whatever is causing the impaction? Do you know?

    2 months w/out pooping - very worries

Ok, a quick update on progress. My son, mother, and I just got back from a few days of vacation and I left Wingo with a local pet store owner I trust. He did not poop while I was gone......and I just went and picked him up. The pet store owner said his tummy doesn't feel hard and if he was...
