    Some Dubia Questions

Based on my very recent experience, leave a space. I was using a heat mat for one of my roach bins and it evidently went haywire, melted a BIG hole all the way through the bin. I've got roaches everywhere now

I need some advice on how to fill my 4x2x2 Mellamine cage.

Well, he doesn't really need anything, other than some good basking spots and enough space to move from warmer to cooler areas when he feels like it. All the decorations are for you - the owner - not the lizard. So if you are asking if he needs anything else for it to be a suitable home, then...

    Rollie Pollies?

Isopods are very commonly raised as feeders by people who keep salamanders, turtles, frogs, and other small lizards, so it stands to reason they wouldn't harm bearded dragons. Look around on a site such as caudata.org (the salamander site) and you will find them referred to quite frequently...

Cheapest web store to buy waxworms?

You might want to try Silkworms, too. Highly nutritious and digestible and you can get small ones. Since you also have at least one other bigger dragon, if the silkies get too big for your baby dragon you can just feed them to the bigger one. I use Coastal Silkworms but Mulberry Farms has a good...

    Rollie Pollies?

True. And since Sowbugs are known to be safe, are produced commercially just like crickets and roaches, and have been fed to pet reptiles for years, it's OK for him to buy some and see if his dragon will eat them :)

    Rollie Pollies?

I have to disagree with your comment: "play host to many parasites". Quoting directly from the above link: "Pill bugs have no specialized predators, though they play host to specialized parasitoids in the fly family Rhinophoridae." So they may host a single type fly larvae. Following the Wiki...

    Rollie Pollies?

Try some B. Dubia roaches and Superworms. Easiest things in the world to keep. I'm thinking about tinkering with the Sowbugs myself. My understanding is that their shells are Calcium and are digestible for dragons, vs the chitlin covering roaches, superworms, etc, which isn't digestible. I...

    Phoenix worm breeding

"Phoenix Worms" is like a brand name for Black Soldier Fly Larva. I just started growing them a couple of months ago, so I don't have a good feel yet as to whether I can grow enough to use them as a staple or not. You need a lot of space for them and a special container to grow them. I bought a...

    What should I breed next

Wellll, I guess the only thing left would be Black Fly Larvae (Phoenix Worms) which you'd need to do outside. I don't know that there's any reason to breed more than one roach variety. No idea if there's a nutritional variant among different species or not? Might be interesting to find out. I...

    black soldier fly in california

It's in total shade already, so all I can do to get it any cooler is leave the lid off - something they suggest on their website. They have plenty of food in the bin, maybe even too much food, which could be generating more heat as it decays. I'll keep tinkering with it until I get it just right.

    black soldier fly in california

If I can keep everything up and running successfully, I'll start a thread on it with step-by-step details and pictures. So far I have learned: don't overfeed (it will stink) feed meats very sparingly (see above) make sure it doesn't get too hot - I haven't figured out how hot too hot is yet...

A couple question on Roaches and colonies...

The "albino" roaches are just roaches that have recently molted. That means they are growing, which is a good thing :) To collect roaches to feed: I make a trap to collect my feeder roaches and it has worked very well for me. Get a large plastic container with a lid (like a big CoolWhip...

    black soldier fly in california

I tried making a homemade version of the BioPod last year and it was pretty much a failure so I went ahead and bought the real thing a couple months ago, along with the 1 pound of worms. Then I made an outdoor enclosure for it by closing in my kid's old jungle gym with mosquito netting I got...
