I'm having somewhat the same problem.. I use oats for my bedding. And I had tons of tiny ones, but now it looks like I'm down to 25% of the original population. :shock: I really do think the big ones feed on the smaller ones. So I'm going to get a small extra container to throw the bigger ones...

I've never had a problem with the smell of crickets either. I just think if you simply keep up the hygiene of the container, then it's not a big deal. And I bred them so I've had plenty. :roll:

Oh yes that reminds me. The con of carpet is that it is also hard to clean. You have to remove all the objects in the tank just to take it out and clean thoroughly. But it worked well for when I used it. I now switched to tile.

I've used carpet for a very long time with no problems. People just worry that the "loops" could cause a dragon to get his nail or toe stuck and cause potential injury. But it is really not that dangerous. It'd be a freak accident. I think the turf would be a pain to clean too.

I've heard that red lights can cause eye problems and certain other issues. I would recommend switching to a white light. White light is always said to be the best. Are the temps and UVB all okay?

I believe a ReptiSUN 10.0 bulb says the rays reach around 20"... however the output is not as strong. So I believe most people say 6 - 10" is fine. Up to 6" away is best. Someone else might be able to give more information and advice. And a heat emitter does the same job, but some people say...

Option 3 sounds best to me as well. My crickets sit outside for most of the day until I get home to pick them up and rarely have any dead crickets. It's not as cold here though. But since they will be in-doors, I think they will be fine.
