Silkworm colony? Thinking of trying one...

if it's warm in your area you could prolly get by without getting an incubator---------i like mine because it also creates somewhat more of a sterile environment for the hatchlings----

Silkworm colony? Thinking of trying one...

that's too bad about the roaches------they are by far the best feeder IMHO--------they are very cool to keep as well and lots easier than silkworms plus w a y cheaper. the roaches that are used as feeders are not the infesting species and if one should go awol it usually ends up dead...

yay for the mulberry trees!!! be prepared to collect lots of small branches...... these guys can REALLY eat. The more they eat, the faster and larger they grow. last summer i started with 250 eggs and had silks all summer long----i collected from 3 different trees-----BIG trees. :) how...

Silkworm colony? Thinking of trying one...

silks are cool to raise but you have to me meticulous in their care---they are VERY prone to bacterial infections which can---in a matter of hours------kill off all of them. are you thinking of starting with eggs? do you have mulberry trees growing close by? chow can get expensive to buy as...

    i have my first cacoon

the female moths have very large abdomens and are larger in size. mulberry branches make perfect places for them to spin their cocoons. my worms always got to be around 2 1/2 inches to 3 1/4 right before cocooning. the worms will also emit a good size 'poop' prior to cocooning.

    mulberry trees (sunnyvale ca)

not trying to start a ruckus :) but personally i prefer the leaves. i raised silkworms---normal and zebras all summer last year on nothing but leaves-------i had a system going that worked very well and it was fun. YES they eat an incredible amount of leaves, i had three separate trees that i...

    mulberry trees (sunnyvale ca)

the leaves are definitely the way to go if you want to raise silks or just prefer leaves over chow. chow is VERY expensive in the long run because silkworms go through LOTS of it. it takes an abundant amount of eaves to feed them, but it's well worth it! the worms are much healthier and tend...

How to start a Dubia colony

Some folks separate the sizes that they feed to make it easier to gather them up------personally, i just keep all mine together and then just pick out the correct size from my colony. This does disturb them but not for too long and they settle back in. Never had any problems this way. You...

Well according the the people in my other topic I am ready t

my beardie eats about 14-16 dubia a day -----i don't feed him adults as he has trouble gulping down anything larger than an inch and a half-----my dragon is a little 'special'-------most adult dragons can easily take an adult male dubia with no problems........they are softer in body too--wings...

How to start a Dubia colony

there are PLENTY of threads on this forum to help you get started. Raising dubia is very easy and well worth the start up cost. How are you keeping your nymphs now? It's best to start with mix of 350-500---> adults, nymphs, juvies....and then give them about 6 months to establish their...
