    Educating and bonding with Beardies...

I have read a few posts on people who talk to their dragons so I'm not the only one. When holding Zalaika, I say her name often and her nickname, in hopes she'll recognize them eventually. I use simple words with her and gently expose her to new experiences. For instance, for her first bath, I...

Found something very special when going through old posts..

This is Zeppelin in 2003, when he was Zalaika's age shortly after I got him. It's one of my favorite pictures of Zeppy and was my desktop wallpaper for the longest time. Even my professors recognized that picture as my laptop wallpaper.

    Actually still female (for now)

I must be tired, I was imagining boy parts. I looked again and compared with the female pics online, most likely female just like first poster said the other day. I've been up all night doing work and my brain isn't functioning. lol My brain was "making" boy bumps.

Very strong protective instinct with this baby: Normal?

I've only had Zalaika (often called Zee as a nickname) two days and I already feel as protective towards her as I do my dogs and cats. Maybe even a little more paranoid as she is so tiny and they are grown up and healthy. I really want to do everything righ this time. As my city lacks...

Caring for/breeding phoenix worms (was buying bulk feeders)

I'd like to do something like dubia for Zalaika as they would always be plentiful and I wouldn't have to worry about stores carrying them or not. Money is not a big issue for me with food for Zalaika, but availability is. More often than not, the stores are out of the feeders she needs. I also...

Zalaika Zee's photo thread (NEW pics 9/30)...

This is the princess, showing off her intelligence and personality. More pics to come as I take them. I LOVE this little one so much.

    Meant to be

In the last week, I had dreams of Zeppelin, named my small shop in Second Life "Dream of Dragons," and found my Mom yesterday morning cleaning out the old 70 gallon aquarium. Yesterday, we were going to go to the mall to pick up Beatles tickets for my Dad and on the way, Mom made a joke about...

    New baby...curious about gender...

I had my beloved Zeppelin (2003-2011) for eight years, a short time with a failure to thrive baby Xena. And not this is my third, and hopefully healthy bearded dragon, Zalaika Zee. Unlike Xena, she's healthy, active, and eating. I'm providing a link to the album. It also includes some sexing...

    Mr. Xena update...

My little guy: -is a boy, not a girl (I kept the name because I believe he has some recognition of it/responds to it more than other words) -Is a picky eater like Zeppelin was, we are still trying to find a veggie he likes -Is very curious when he is out and loves to jump and climb all over me...

    Zeppelin 3/29/2003-3/24/2011

Zeppelin came into my life as a four-six week old hatchling. My very first memory of her is her sitting in my hand, tilting her head, and opening one eye to check me out. As a baby, I measured her each day and took photos to measure her growth. Throughout her almost 8 years she had many...

My baby is finally eating well...

She ate 15 crickets this morning, plus she loves escarole (one of the greens recommended on the food list). She's starting to really hunt the crickets now, not just grab one or two like in her first few days. I now have about 300 crickets to do for the next few days until Mom and I can buy a...

    Snuggies and stuffed animals...

I've noticed a lot of people using snuggie blankets and stuffies for beardies. I was considering getting a stuffie for Xena. Are fluffy ones best or are cloth ones without fur better? I was also wondering, do dragons tend to soil these a lot? I know most dragons seem to have their places the...

    Feeding quesiton...

I've been doing some more research on feeding beardies and I've read that silkworms are the best food. I know you can get baby silkworms for baby beardies. Also, we found a local supplier that offers these feeders in bulk. Are silkwoms a good choice? Easy to care for? etc. I want to give little...

Here is where I found Xena sitting like when I came in my study.

    Baby bath...

Xena is taking a bath in the barbie pool Zeppy used as a baby. She didn't like it the first time because the water was a bit cool, but the second time I got the temp right and she enjoyed soaking and looking around. Her tail was shedding a bit yesterday so I want to keep her skin hydrated.

More active and interested/still a light eater

Xena came home on Saturday. Today is the first day she is really being active. She had her first poop today which is good. However, she is still only eating small amounts (about two 1/4" crickets per day plus a few bites of greens). Is this due to her small size, adjustment, or not being used to...

    Solved the basking temp situation...

I bought 2 75 watt flood lights for her zoomed combination hood (they don't sell 75ers in regular stores, it's either 65s or 100s). Now Xena's basking spot is between 98.5 and 99 degrees when measured with a probe into a hole in the wood. She seems very content with the new temperature. I know...

The "I don't want to go back in my cage" is starting already

It's only Xena's second day and she's already starting to protest when I try to guide her off my hand back into her cage. She scrambles back up my hand a few times before finally giving up. I know she needs her basking and UV time too so I can't have her out all day. I was thinking she'd be a...

    Basking temps at lower heights...

Xena is living in a partitioned section of Zeppy's old 70 gallon terrarium. It has a combination hood which takes up to 4 75 watt bulbs. I'm trying to figure out how to get a good basking temp at a lower height because she is little and Zeppy's big basking branch would be too high for her. Do...
