Ive got a exo terra with a screen but I use a t5 10.0 about 10 inches from basking spot and my guy seems to be doing fine. The mesh isn't too fine but id say it probably blocks around 40%

Yes! I love looking at my guys colors right after he sheds, hes always so dark while basking but when he roams around and eats hes got orange arms :) Also waking up and seeing him basking makes me happy and seeing his fat little belly :D

Ok thank you, I gave him one that was slightly less chunky and he kinda held the head in his mouth for abit (I was slightly concerned) but then he managed to get it down fine. I might just chop the heads off the really big ones and hope he still eats them.
