When can I give him more live food besides crickets?

Crickets, when gut-loaded and dusted with appropriate supplements, are excellent feeders for all ages of beardies, but the more variety of appropriate foods you make available, the more likely you are to provide a more balanced diet--this applies to live feeders as well as the greens/veggies...

Pros & Cons of other feeder roaches?

I didn't doubt that lats could infest a house if given the opportunity, but I think many other feeder roaches would be just as capable in certain conditions, hence the care that needs to be taken with all of them to prevent escapes. I think that in many areas of the country, even inside a...

Pros & Cons of other feeder roaches?

Do you know how they escaped? Way back when I had just gotten my dubia colony, I had a little er...incident that could have easily resulted in hundreds of dubia running amok throughout my house, but luckily I was able to contain the "situation" and all was well. But it really made me realize...

Unwanted invaders in my Roach Bin

There are different species of dermestid beetles, and the larvae color varies greatly between them. There are also different species of flour and grain beetles and larvae color/appearance will vary greatly between those too. Do you have any colleges near you? I would suggest contacting an...

Pros & Cons of other feeder roaches?

I would highly recommend lats, so far they've been my favorite feeder roach (even compared to dubia), although I'm about to get a colony of orange-heads. I think I'm really going to like them and I know other people that have them do too. They will eat each other's wings if not provided with...

Unwanted invaders in my Roach Bin

I'm pretty sure that is not a dermestid beetle. I couldn't say for sure if it is a flour beetle or not, but its more likely that or similar beetle. There might have been a dry food that was used for the roaches that was contaminated. They're not going to hurt your beardies if they end up...

    calcium with or without D3???

You definitely want the calcium w/D3 for beardies, even if you have a good UVB bulb. The only exception would be if the beardie was housed outdoors and recieving UVB from natural sunlight, in that situation you would not need to supplement with D3 in the calcium. While D3 overdoses are...

    Zoo Med Can 'o Products

I actually have been told by several reputable sources that they do use preservatives, although the manufacturers will not specify exactly what kinds. Also, you cannot tell if a cricket is gut-loaded by looking at it.

    Zoo Med Can 'o Products

I've always been wary of the canned insects. They're obviously preserved with something, but the packaging doesn't specify what with. And yes, they have a pretty foul odor. They also haven't been gutloaded. Personally I don't feel comfortable feeding them.

What is your adult beardies salad?

Same, among other grocery stores. No type of lettuce makes an appropriate staple green for a beardie's salad, small amounts can be added for variety, but there nutritional value is extremely minimal.

What is your adult beardies salad?

The greens are usually in bunches next to the different lettuces--almost all grocery stores have them.

What is your adult beardies salad?

I don't use any kind of lettuces due to their poor nutritional content. My salads usually contain at least 2 types of greens (collards, mustard, dandelion, etc.), grated squash, small amounts of grated cucumber sometimes, same with grated carrots, chopped spineless prickly pear cactus pads...

What age are PetSmart Beardie's sold at?

I regularly see beardies that appear as young as 4 weeks at Petsmart, the larger ones being *maybe* 2 months. That was one of the nice things about getting my last 3 from local breeders, I knew their exact age.

    SuperCal NoD?? Proper calcium?

I feel your pain about not living near any petstores--but keep in mind even the better petstores don't always have correct info for beardies. I live a couple of hours away from the nearest petstore which is why I buy pretty much all my animal products online.

    SuperCal NoD?? Proper calcium?

Anyway you could exchange it for the correct kind or return it?
