    bearded color chages

Pick one, it really doesn't matter. You can put it on the food to gut-load. If you don't think they ate enough, you can sprinkle them, too. Just don't overdo the amounts. Too much may be bad for them. My bottle says only 1 or 2 times per week.

    bearded color chages

Dear CKY. Please don't misunderstand my comment of "my understanding of colored bulbs are..." I researched extensively before adopting my Rex 2 years ago. With all due respect, white lights make them feel it's daytime 24/7. It is important for them to have day/night schedule. I never came...

My new beardie always basks and

Everything sounds fine. Just a matter of getting to know you and the new surroundings. You might even want to try hand-feeding to break the ice a little faster. They are very trusting. I put my finger in front of Rex's face, and he licks me before I pick him up. Kinda like letting a dog...

    bearded color chages

Hello CKY. Black beards are normal for the most part. My Rex does it days before shedding his skin. Just like a snake does, it outgrows a layer of skin. As for misting, beardies are a desert lizard that does not require it, like a Water Dragon may. You may be shocking your beardie if the...

    water dishes

Hello Nilla. Beardies are desert lizards that don't require a lot of water. They tend to receive enough water in the foods that they eat. However, in all the literature I've read it is suggested to supply clean, fresh water daily. I have a shallow dish similar to Rex's feeding dish in the...

    Equipment configuration question

Hello jwalder. I personally purchased all my items after doing exhaustive research on beardie care. It is important to set up days and nights for your beardie. They need a basking side of the enclosure, 120 degrees max at the closest point of basking to the heat source. Any hotter, they run...

    constantine not eating

Hello smokindaisy. Congrats on your new adoption. You made a wise choice. I'm not an expert, but have over 2 years with my Rex. I do have a few thoughts on your situation. Are you-up-to date on caring for beardies? They are sensitive creatures. The literature I have read indicates caring...

    Narcolepsy

Hello Jasper's Mom. How long have you had your beardie? If you just got it, you may need to let it adapt to the new pad for a while. I didn't handle my Rex for at least a week after I got him. Sounds like your beardie is reacting that way due to too much stress. In the pet store when I...

    concern for my beardie lex

Hello talltail. Perfectly normal for the black beard. My Rex's beard turns black soon before he sheds a coat. After 2 years now, I lost track of how many times. But he's now 18 inches long. Hope this helps you!

My new beardie always basks and

Hello underoath. If you just got your Beardie, he/she may need a few days to adjust. Do not handle for at least a week. I know it's tempting, but it adds a lot more stress to what it already has. Just make sure you are up to date on care info, enclosure set up, and basking side and cool side...

    Harvey not eating veggies.

Hello harveybeardface. I have had my Rex for over 2 years now. One thing I'll say is it's like raising a child. Just like people, their desire for certain foods may change. Sometimes you may feel they're just being difficult. However, we like a large variety of foods, too. For example, Rex...

    sleep time temp ?

According to the books I have read, 70 degrees is an acceptable sleeping temperature. My Rex is just over 2 years old, and that is where his enclosure is set at night. However, if you have an open screen-type enclosure not protected from drafts, or an enclosure against a cold outside wall, I...
