Ok, update time. I took him to the vet this morning, and she said she could hear a slight rattle in his right lung, but nothing awful. He's on Bayrtil and Flagyl for 10 days and has Carnivore Care as well, since he is still very tired and not interested in eating on his own. He's not a big fan of the syringe feeding, but he does seem to like the Carnivore Care at least. The vet also did some bloodwork and an x-ray, because she felt that his liver was enlarged. The bloodwork was normal, but she found a mass she thinks may be a tumor, and told me Smokey might have cancer
She recommended if his quality of life does not improve over the next few weeks that I consider euthanization. He has been doing fine prior to the
bathing incident last night, so I am hoping for the best, that he can make a recovery from this - if he returns to how he was prior I do not think I would need to put him to sleep, he's been a very happy lizard before yesterday. I am really hoping he gets better, and I suppose I'll update in here with an outcome after a little bit.
As far as his aspiration, I thought it might be helpful to mention everything I did for anyone else who comes across this thread in a similar situation. Once I noticed something was wrong, I tilted him forward in my hands and let the water drain out of his mouth and lungs. I also did a light slinging motion, holding him with his head facing away from me and bringing him gently from above my head downwards (as recommended by the vet I called last night). I then took a plastic syringe and gently extracted water and saliva from his mouth to further remove the liquid. After this, I propped him in a slightly downwards position with a hand towel, and left his ceramic heater on overnight, which I will continue to do for the next week to keep temps up at night as well as during the day. This seemed to be pretty effective in removing most of the liquid from his lungs. I hope this can help someone!
