Hey all, so I’m getting a little worried about my new beardie Axle. I’ve had him for 4 days now and in that time I’ve only got him to eat 2 Dubias. That was on the second day. Since then he hasn’t eaten any and I haven’t got him to eat any greens at all. He also has not pooped since I have had him.
I got him from a gentleman who was selling off the beardies he had as his wife is about to retire now any they were going to do some traveling. He said he use to do some breeding as a project with his grandson.
I just weighed and measured him, he is about 17.5” and was at 422 grams. I was told he is about 8 years old. He has all his toes and full tail.
Axle does move about in his enclosure a bit throughout the day, not sure exactly how much as I work nights and sleep a good chunk of the day. Mostly he’ll sit at the warm side of the tank to bask. My girlfriend said she has seen him move all the way over and sit on the cool side for a bit.
The main rock/cave for basking sits at right around 110 degrees in the hottest point, measured with a laser temp gun. The surrounding areas ranging from 90 lower down up to the 110 point. The ledge behind the cave is 80-85. The mid area of the tank is around 80, give or take a few degrees in some spots and the cool end stays around 72. That’s what the house is set for and also what it should be overnight for him too.
I just changed his lighting as he came with a red “night” light that I got rid off. A basking build that got the basking area to surface temps of 180+ that I measured. And a compact looped uvb bulb. I changed the basing bulbs to a zoomed 50w bulb and a 25w bulb just to the right of mid tank. I also got a 36” reptisun 10.0 t5 tube for uvb.
I can probably use some advise on setting up the heating though as the cool end seems too low but i already have 2 heat bulbs on the tank. The tank is 48lx16wx15h.
What do you guys think? Any help appreciated. Do you think he’s still just settling in? Maybe getting use everything still including my cats that like to watch him? They don’t seem to bother him, he hasn’t bearded at them or anything more then a glance and watch them back when the come up.
I’ll also add a pic of the set up and the old lights I replaced.
