Hello all, I've been feeding my newly adopted 2yr old super worms for about a month, every other day. But recently I've been told by a few ppl they are not good bc of there fat content. (I was misleaded by others on this website about how you can use them as a staple). I was wondering what is the best worm to use as a staple as I cannot keep roaches or crickets in my house. And how many of those recommended worms to feed a fully grown adult bearded dragon?

Thanks guys.

That is correct superworms can not be full time staples, lots of people think they can because beardies at around two years of age only need two insect feedings a weak if in correct health, however just because they eat less often for insects doesn't mean they should get treat feeders for a meal.

Here is just a list of staples and treat feeders so you know what you can feed regularly and what you can feed occasionally.

Staple feeders - Crickets, locusts, grasshoppers, silkworms, black soldier fly larvae, dubia roaches, turkish roaches, possibly earthworms.

I'd probably go for silkworms or black soldier fly larvae.

Each feeding a beardie needs around 10-20 bugs, so probably 20 bugs each insect feeding. Either that or as many staple feeder bugs as he wants in 10-15 minutes.

Treat feeders - Waxworms, hornworms, superworms, mealworms, butterworms.
Wax worms - once a week, 4-5 max.
Hornworms - every other day to every two days, 4-6 max.
Mealworms - every other day to every two days, 5-10 max. Only for beardies above 6 months.
Superworms - once or twice a week, 3-4 max. Only for beardies above 12 months.
Butterworms - once or twice a week, 3-4 max.

I was looking it up and a lady said she gives hers 100bsfl a day! You think 20bsfl every other day with do?

It should be fine... though maybe go for the 10-15 minute time period as they are pretty small.
Make sure your beardie is eating salad as well.

Oh and feed them one at a time, feeding too much at once will cause them to come out undigested.
Also see about poking a small hole into them somewhat so the "meat" inside will get digested.

I practically freaked out when my blue tongue skink had a few come out wiggling along with her poop.

So one at time, but I can feed them as fast as she will eat them right? Oh god if that happened I would flip!! So like a whole in each one with like a toothpick or something and then feed them one by one and I'm good? :) and btw idk if that 10minute thing will work as my girl is a pig!

Basically yes, make sure she chews them up well before offering another one though.

Yeah I was pretty freaked out, I thought she somehow had another parasite that the meds didn't take care of or if her ruptured rib cage was stopping her from being able to digest food properly.

Almost all beardies are pigs im pretty sure.

That is probably true lol! So I'll try out the 10min time frame when I order some. Do you recommend a certain place to get them from?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
