Minimum enclosure size

Postby MostBeast » Fri Feb 17, 2017 9:26 am

Hi everyone,
Soon I'll be moving to a new city (new temporary job in between semesters) and I'll be taking my little one with me. She is currently in a 1.5ft wide x 4 ft long x 19in tall tank right now. The thing weighs about 150 pounds and isn't the most mobile thing. She uses about 30-40% of the tank (warm side). She is NEVER on the cool side. What is the absolute smallest tank size for a full grown dragon? I take her out quite often and let her bask under a mercury vapor bulb so she wouldn't be pent up all day. Thanks everyone!

Absolute minimum would be 40 gallon breeder, but IMO, that is too small. Try fro at least a 50 or 60 gal

=\ While its great she has an MVB and out side the enclosure opportunities keep in mind she will probably still spend alot of her time in the enclosure - offering the smallest possible space isn't going to be in her best interests. Large enclosures are a hassle and often heavy but there are light weight alternatives (PVC, Plastic etc) that while they cost a bit might be a good option.

She uses about 30-40% of the tank (warm side). She is NEVER on the cool side.

More often than not this is a habitat design issue. It could be a number of things, the cool side is too cool, the warm side is too cool, the cool side is too exposed or doesn't have comfortable perches etc.
