Hello there,
I have a pair of bearded dragons 1 male about 9 months old, 1 female about 7 months old . PREVIOUSLY they were housed together for several months with no problems. About a month ago I noticed that the male was displaying the typical mating rituals and actually attempted to perform the deed once or twice. I have since separated them and they are now in their own enclosures.
The MALE is housed in a 75 gal tank:
multiple basking areas of 90-105 F --160 watt Solar Glo UVB
cool side of the tank is at about 80- 85
reptile carpet substrate
diet of greens (doesn't usually eat), crickets, meal (occasionally), phoenix, wax, and super worms.
He has continued to display head bobbing, darkened beard and scratching at glass when the female can be seen. Within the past week he seems to have lost his appetite. I can only get him to eat 3-4 large dusted crickets a day. I can't get him to eat anything else, even his favorite the super worms. He looks at the other foods and "licks his lips" but doesn't attempt to eat. He seems healthy and active...
Initially I thought he was just focused to trying to mate. But now I'm not certain. He has daily bowel movements but they are small and often times soft, watery and light brown. I don't know if this is because of the lack of food taken in, or maybe he has something else going on? I am starting to see noticeable weight loss and am getting rather concerned. I do bath him every other day to avoid dehydration. Today I sprayed him with water and he was actively drinking the water droplets so I continued until he had had enough--a good amount of water.
Any suggestions as to what could be going on? THANK YOU
