I was just wondering how the [TOPIC AUTO-LOCKED DUE TO INACTIVITY] works? What criteria it is based upon?

I have noticed 5-8 week old threads (last post), with say, 8 replies, 60 views [Locked]

And then ...

I have noticed 9-10 month old threads (last post), with say, 2 replies, 75 views [NOT Locked]

Is it a Numbers thing, or does some one person actually just decide which & whose to [Lock] for this reason & which not.

Got my curiosity up.

It's based on inactivity. So... last post. I forget the exact time... but I think posts that are idle for 30 days or so... maybe it's more than that. But it's definitely based on most recent post time.

If you've seen one that hasn't had any activity for a long time and isn't locked that way, I'd be interested in knowing which. Maybe there's a bug in my SQL (although it is fairly simple). :)

If you're a geek... this is what I do...

Code:
update phpbb_topics t, phpbb_posts p set t.topic_status = 1, p.post_text = concat('[TOPIC AUTO-LOCKED DUE TO INACTIVITY]

', p.post_text) where t.forum_id in (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ... etc) and t.topic_status = 0 and t.topic_first_post_id = p.post_id and t.topic_last_post_time < unix_timestamp(now() - interval 40 day)

So, it looks like it's based on the last post time being 40 days old. I have select forums... but it's pretty much every forum, except for some moderator ones, I think. And the topic has to be unlocked already (status = 0).

Oh yeah... and that's JUST the auto-locking. Some topics get locked by moderators if they get out of hand, are requested by the OP, etc. But that's not as common, and wouldn't have that message pre-pended to the first post. Only the auto-lock script adds that (which is the code above).

Just wanted to add that if an OP of a thread requests to have a thread unlocked we do that as well at times which may be another reason why you see some older threads that are not locked.

Here are just a few that I have noticed because I have posted in them at some point or another, I have seen quite a number of others also in my travels on the site, but don't exactly remember which ones.

Most recent posts are older than 7 months ...
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=116584
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=116326
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=116230
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=116543

I had just noticed that every thread that I had started, was [Locked] after a specified amount of time, yet so many others were not. This is why the original question.

Ahhh.... it seems I had added more forums and forgotten to update the script. :) That forum isn't in the list of those to lock topics for. I'll be correcting that.

Thanks!

I know I had skipped some because they were forums where it wasn't uncommon to have 30-40 days go by between posts, like the Australia-specific forum or others where those visiting it were not frequent.

The main purpose, though is to minimize people coming LONG after a topic had sunk down below, and replying on really old topics. 40 days is probably a little tight. I could probably change that to 60 or 90 days and still achieve the same goal. :)

No problem, thanks for the prompt replies. Personally, I think the 30-40 days is about right and wish other forums would have this aspect also. 6 month old problems being revived is a pain in the butt.

Thanks again.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
