Hey Everyone,

Total newbie here embarking on my third week with my baby bearded. I had ordered small dubias, set up their home properly..... and woke up to them invaded by ants. Grrrrr........

Tips for preventing future invasions?

I've read about putting the box into a pan of water...... any other ways?

Also.... I make sure she never has food (live or salad) left over in her tank but just in case, any precautions I should be taking to make sure ants don't invade her tank? Is this a "thing" beardie owners generally have to worry about?

Thank you in advanced for your help.

Sending blessings,
Ash (& Firefly)

Fluon paint around the base of the keeper , very slippy , ants and other small bugs can't climb it.

http://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/use-of-fluon-for-insect-barrier.70598/ works a treat keeping baby spiders , baby tiny house roaches and tiny house ants out of my tubs and insect keepers.

https://www.bioquip.com/search/DispProduct.asp?pid=2871A , I bought a 100ml bottle 8 years ago and it's still good and I've hardly made a impression on the volume of stuff in the bottle, just needs a good shake to resuspend the stuff in the liquid next time I need to use it (which is very infrequently - coatings are good for years).

Awesome! Thank you so much!! I'm ordering this today! Do you pain the bottom of your lizards tank as well? I'm wondering if it's a good precaution or over kill. Waking up to an ant infestation was a little freaky!

I'd just mask off the bottom inch or so of the outside front , back and sides and paint on some fluon, make sure to give the bottle a really good shake before opening to make sure the fluon is well suspended first, and I'd give a short length of the cables a coating (ants will use electrical cables as highways) , and apply a layer of fluon around the outsides of the airvents.

Once applied unless someone "gets a bee in her bonnet" and goes nuts with cleaning, the dried fluon is good for ages.... I've never needed to reapply after 5 years and never seen an ant or baby roach or baby spider inside my enclosures or tubs since.

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
