Temp probe location for Dubia colony

Just finished setting up my tote to breed dubias in. I am using a regular heating pad off of Amazon for under heating. And I wired up a heating controller to keep Temps about 90-95. My problem is, I have the temp probe for the controller taped to the bottom of the tote. And it keeps the bottom of the tote the correct temperature, however after a few hours using IR thermometer the temp of egg crate inside is only around 78-80°.

Should I move the temp probe off of the bottom and stick it in between the egg carton and use that as the temperature spot? If I do that, it seems like the bottom surface of the tote gets around 100-105° and I don't want to kill the roaches. So I'm not sure what to do.

They'll be fine. I have a heat mat under one of my dubia tanks and it gets the frass into the high 80s but the rest of the tank and the secondary tank are at room temp which is 70s in the summer and 60s in the winter (will get another heat mat for the second tank when winter comes). They're pretty tough and adaptable so I wouldn't worry too much - your temps are fine.

Youre fine, as long as there is somewhere they can go to warm up. Theyre most fertile around 96 degrees, so if the bottom is 100 to 105 i imagine there is a pretty decent area with ambient temps in the right temp range. What i like to do is move my temp gun all around the tub so i have an idea at how big of a "fertility radius" i have.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
