Beardie has fat neck is this normal

He’s had this for some time, I worry about him because I’m
Not sure what is normal and what isn’t in Adult brandies. Here’s pics

Lately when he’s been sleeping his tongue perturbed from his lips a bit, seems to mouth breathe a bit more. Appetite is ok. Dubai roaches and collard green, Mustard greens, dandelion are main fooods. 40gln tank, 85-95 FH he’s about 1.5 yr old doesn’t seem to move about much.

The throat area is not a concern.

I think there is an issue with the jaws , could be due to MBD. (the lower jaw looks like it's distended forward to me but the image is not very clear and this may just be he's in lip shed).

The eyes look a bit sunken to me , and the fat pads on his head depleted.

I think this need to be investigated by a reptile vet to identify if there are health issue going on that are effecting him.

Hi there, can you post pics of his tank and can you describe the exact brand + type of lights you are using ? That is very important. If the uvb lights are not the right kind he may be calcium deficient but you can correct that usually just with getting the proper uvb lights + calcium supplement. Getting him in the sun can do a lot as well.

I use zoomed 10.0 T5 UVB

and his normal zoomed basking spot lamp went out so I had a 90W philips PAR38 spot indoor outdoor dimmable bulb that I saw recommended on a beardie site. I have that on a dimmer switch and have a digitable problem thermometer inside to keep track of temps. I’ll get some better pics of him in the daylight to send you guys.

Eyes looks good and I can see nice full fat pads on the head and a nice thick tail. All good there.

I strongly recommend moving the UV source/s UNDER the lid. This will instantly double the UVA and UVB your dragon will get all the price of a couple of zipties, cableties, or couple lengths of string or monofilament (fishing line).

Thank yiu for taking the time to look at this. It’s my sons dragon he sorta stopped caring so I took over his care. I try to do as much research as possible but I get so worried that I’m not doing something right. I worry his home is too small but can’t find a bigger one that opens from sides.

The discolored area on his tail has been there for months, what’s your opinion as to what may have caused this? In regards to the uvb, you don’t think it’ll be too close to him? His cage is 36x18x18 when let me take a better pic of his enclosure

What’s your opinion of his enclosure? Should I still mount uvb inside? Also do you think the par38 spot Phillips (indoor/outdoor) 90w bulb as basking light is ok to use? I saw it recommended on a forum but am not sure which one.

That's the bulb I use and it works well. I have the same tank but the bulb is hanging from an adjustable lamp stand about 20-25'' above the floor of the tank.
