Medication and Brumation

So Belle decided to go into her first Brumation. She also had her vet check up 12 days ago which revealed a clean fecal :blob5: and unfortunately a GI infection :angry5: . She took her 10 days of Baytril and we were giving her some acidophilus. My question is should I continue the acidophilus? Or should I just leave her be?

Hello,

Is she still brumating or did you puIl her out of it when you treated with Baytril?
I would give acidophiliz for a couple of weeks after the last dose of Baytril just to be sure the system balances out.
How is she doing, overall, are her colors looking good?

Hi Tracie, thanks for responding.
I pulled her out to give her Baytril. Not her favorite time of day I'm sure. However thru her medication days it was only a semi brumation. She was still somewhat active, basking normally and had her cuddle time, just wouldn't eat. Then the first day off the Baytril she decided enough is enough and is now sleeping all day. I will still give her the acidophilus daily for now when I catch her awake, She does wake up daily to watch her favorite nature show, Gator Boys  , I swear I catch her smiling when it's on.
Other than that her colors are still bright and happy, not as many black beards.
She had her vet check back yesterday, we should get those results probably tomorrow.
Her vet said if I cranked the heat up in her tank it should snap her out of brumation. I'm hesitant to even try it as I feel why interfere with anyone's natural cycle (human or reptile). And sulrely the higher temps can't be good for her right? Her temps as of now are: basking 107.5, cool side hide 87.6, ambient warm side 95.5, ambient cool 84. And an added FYI we just replaced her reptisun tube 2 weeks ago.
Anyways sorry for the rambles thanks again for all the help

Well we her blood test results back last night and now I'm starting to get really concerned that maybe she's not bromating. They said the results showed "nothing too abnormal" and want another fecal. Problem is she isn't eating enough to leave a good sample. I'm hoping she doesn't have Adeno.
My last one died from complications due to the virus plus parasites. We got her a completely new set up when we got her and ran all the old food bowels and décor thru the dishwasher 4 times before reusing. I'm just starting to think maybe it wasn't enough.
Anyways thanks for having this great site as a good place to let folk get their worries off their chest. And thanks for listening :)

Hello,

How is she doing today?
Have you gotten her tested for Adeno yet?
I am sorry you lost your last one. I hope she is doing ok. I can take a look at your blood tests if you would like?
Did she eat anything today?

HI, we took her fecal in to get retested and again negative so that's good. Her vet did offer to test for Adeno, but highly doubts that's the cause of her not eating.
Odd question is, and sorry if it sounds stupid, but is the Adeno virus the same as Atadenovirus ?
I've just noticed both terms in a few topics on dealing with infectious diseases.
Also I will take all help, if you want to look at her test results you are more than welcome. I just have to wait for them to mail copies to me.
She's still not eating. Today she hasn't even come out of her hide. I'm starting to lean towards Brumation, I'm hoping that's all it is anyways. We will most likely get the test anyways just to be sure, but money is a bit tight atm, we already spent 500+ on her vet just in February.
All in all besides from eating and sleeping all day, she still has her happy colors and haven't seen a black beard in a few days. Am a little concerned that she has lost 5g in less than 2 weeks tho.
Anyways thanks again Tracie

Hello,

That is great the fecal was negative then! She is likely just brumating, as she seems healthy enough right now.
The Adenovirus is the same as Atadenovirus. The Atadenovirus is the strain for reptiles.
Sure, I can take a look at the test results when you get them.
It really does sound like brumation though as she is not losing much weight right now. I would just keep monitoring her weight to be sure her weight stays pretty stable. It will fluctuate some though.
She hasn't come out of her hide at all? At least she hasn't had a black beard though, that is good.

Keep us posted on her.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
