Situation:
When I got my dragons, he was the bigger one. Now the female has grown bigger than him. I recently just separated them because I noticed the female being aggressive and attempted to bit him. I still have a second tank under construction so I keep one of them in a temporary small reptile. I do switch them half a day so each of them will get some Mega-Ray MVB exposure. He is getting Daily Repcal without phos and D3 (since this is recommended by reptileUV.) Once a week he gets herptivit.

Symptoms:
1.) Eating Less sometimes skipping meals.
2.) Eyes most often closed. But they are clear when they open. Sometimes one eye is closed.
3.) A little lethargic.
4.) When I put him in the big tank for UV exposure he does bask but shorter time frames and he hangs out in cooler area and sleeps.
5.) Stool Looks normal but before he used to do it everyday, he hasn't done it for two days. (maybe because of the small appetite?)

Heres a pic of him basking:

good that you seperated them

it might be from switching enclosures and not getting enough uvb exposure try to get his tank set up asap

this is very important why is it taking so long to get the other tank set up?

is the dial thermometer the only way of measuring temps that you have?

these can be very inacurate and you need a digital thermometer with a probe or a temp gun for correct readings

how far away is the mvb?

what are your temps?

It will take a week to make and it should be done in a couple of days. But the temporary tank isnt really that small, it came with them when I got them!

But it doesn't have UVB, just a heating bulb but I do switch them for about 6 hours or half a day (6-12, 12-6) to get some exposure.

More discussion about my temps here

ok well that tank is too small b/c you cant get a 110 basking spot and then get a cool side that is 75-80

in that small of a tank it looks smaller than a 10g and those even are too small

plus they really need 12 hours of uvb a day

i dont know why it takes every one so long to make enclosures(no offenseto anyone lol)

but i have an 6 ft by 4 ft by 2 ft enclosure with 4 seperate compartments(a condo) it only took us one day to make (probably less than 12 hours)

it always seems to take people weeks to make enclosures sorry i am just ranting lol

i guess maybe not everyone has a dad that can help build stuff? lol

it is very important for him to get the proper temps and the full 12 hrs of uvb for him to grow and feel proper

this is why he is acting strange plus the fact that he is being switched around from enclosure to enclosure

Most likely because the guys making my tank are quite busy doing building and house windows :-D

This is the company:
http://www.kimaglass.com/

I think they do a good job since they are so used to this. Hopefully by this week it should be done.

oh ok you are not making your own cage lol

i guess you cant really rush other people then can you lol

yes hopefully they will get it done soon he should settle down and start acting normal after he gets settled into his new enclosure

b/c he was acting normal in the bigger tank right?

i think you will notice a big change when you get him moved in if not then we can figure something out after that let me know if he starts acting better

Finally she pooped today while she was on the bigger tank :-D Thats a good sign, and also I can see her skin turning pale meaning she will almost shed. After basking for awhile she still runs on the cooler side of the tank with both of her eyes shut. I am trying to give her longer sleep hours, basically 6pm-6am. Hope she will recover soon or atleast be well to run around her own sole tank :-D

and shedding is also

she could also be acting weird b/c of the shedding too

I'm not sure if my eyes were fooling me on the shedding part but it does seem like it but haven't seen any actual peeling yet.

She still seems to be sleeping a lot (eyes closed), legs slumbered. But again, she is eating more and popping more :-D

He still sleeps a lot during the day, I noticed that he is not shedding to well and his size is still pretty small, 9" for 4-5month old (birthday Aug 20, 08)

- I already separated him in a different tank after I noticed the Female bulllying him
- Using Megaray 160watt MVB at 19inch distance from basking area.
- Feeding .5"-.8" crickets, veggies sometimes, small 1 inch" superworms.
- Regularly taking a dump, poo looks normal.
- Repcal Calcium with out D3 everyday once a day.
- Herptivit 2-3 times a week.

As you notice in this pic, his eyes are close, he is sleeping below the hamock which is directly under the MVB.

ahhh sorry i missed your earlier probs with him. He's not had an easy start and looks so down in those early pics, hopefully its just going to take a little time with him. Im guessing you don't take the beardies out together at the mo, and she is well out of sight of him for now or that might be enough to keep him a bit low and off his food. Good luck with your tests. i would only dust with the multi vit 1 x a week maybe 2 at the most

i hope he hets to acting beteer and the encloures look great

Hi,

I would not lower the amount of vits yet. They are still growing and need everything they can get in good amounts (not too little, not too much). Vitamins and sufficient moist (bathing, spraying) are needed for proper shedding. Vitamin D3 is also needed to prevent rickets.

What is the temperature of your tanks? Only one lamp seems a bit cold (even if they are looking for the colder areas). I think dragon1222 has given good temps for a tank. I also think that a nice (flag) stone or something directly under the lamp is a good idea (keep monitoring temp!), while then they really have a basking spot. To cover the place right under the light with something does not seems good to me, while the UVB rays are filtered and too less UVB might be left for the beardies so they cannot make vitamin D3 themselves in a sufficient way.
Beardies are animals who live a great part of their life in the desert areas so they are adapted to higher temps and exposure to UVB rays. If they are getting too hot, they will find a cooler spot themselves. In my tank, the temp right under the heating spot can go up to 118.4F/48C, the coolest part is 82.4F/28C at the hottest part of the "day" and the average air temp is between 95-99. In this way, they always have a temp to choose, depending on what they want to do.

even for a baby multi vits are only reccomended for 1-2x a week

as for calcium w/ d3 he does not need that
he is using a mvb and those produce enough uvb so they do not need any additional suppliment

only with a regular tube type uvb do you need to suppliment with additional calcium d3

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
